For the sake of Truth: the war in Sri Lanka is between the citizens (Tamils And Sinhalese) & Tiger Terrorists.

It's got nothing to do with religion at all.

It's political.

A Terrorist Organisation from South India are pushing for a separate state of their own within what is already a very small island.

They massacre Tamils as well as Sinhalese. They are brutal & there is no rhyme or reason to their killing. They're a well funded and highly organised unit.

There are some who think the Catholic Church is behind it - the old 'divide & rule policy'.

To say it's got Anything to do with Buddhism is misinformed, unjust, and just plain Wrong.

*Sigh*

To ATQ: Buddhism has never been propagated by the sword, and probably never will be.

It appeals to the most intelligent & sane in society, and helps to maintain & stabilise Peace - worldwide.

It's a universal religion that does not sanction even the killing of a fly.

Buddhism, Jainism, Unitarianism. Probably others as well. The bloody history religions are generally Abrahmic.

Jainism is the most non-violent of religions... it places tremendous value on all life and to kill somebody for any reason is seen as incredibly abhorent. They would not approve of killing even the most evil people (more in favor of life-in-prison, obviously they don't want evil people running amuck).

It is also the only religion in which monks are required to be vegetarian.

EDIT: "chosen by god 777" put up an interesting list, but what he completely failed to realize is that none of those leaders killed as a result of their atheism. They did not kill people for believing something different or religious purposes. None of them killed in the name of atheism. They usually killed for political power and their own crazy ideologies, except in the case of Abraham Lincoln, who you'd be hard-pressed to consider an immoral sort.

Meanwhile the number of theists who've killed in the name of their god is staggering... if I were to make a list of each one, the numbers would likely blow people away - especially considering these are people killed for being "non-believers" and no other reason.

The civil war in Sri Lanka is between Buddhists and Hindus. So it's not Buddhism, so why is everyone who mentions this fact getting thumbs down?

I'll go with Jainism.

Sikhs are warriors. Their hair is wrapped around a dagger inside their turban, and they carry a small dagger in a sheath, as a symbol of their readiness.

This sikh has a sword prominently displayed:

I won't bother repeating the reasons for excluding Buddhism.

Sikhism

You people that answered Buddhism need to check your facts. While Buddhism is more peaceful than most religions, Sikhism has a history of less violence than Buddhism.
