I answered a question that asked "Has prayer ever worked for you?" With "No, it never has." This is the truth.

I used to pray a lot, when I was young and trying to appeal to the Christian god and get Jesus to "come into my heart," like all my Christian friends told me I should. I was very sincere about it, if ever a little girl was ready to be touched by the holy spirit, I was. But I never heard or felt a thing. Nothing I prayed for ever came to pass.

Yet I got a thumbs down for my truthful answer. Why?

I don't know. That's not fair because you were telling the truth about your self and so no one has the right to give you a thumbs down for that.

I'm sorry that God never touched you either. All I can say is that He is real and He does love you. I never went to church my whole life and I didn't "believe" in God although I was open to the possibility that He existed. Then when I realized that I couldn't live my life successfully on my own and I ended up at church because of circumstances beyond my control and heard the gospel message and the call to ask Jesus into my heart I answered and received the Holy Spirit.

I was 43 at the time and I don't know why God didn't save me sooner since the Bible teaches that He knows us before He even created the world. All I can say is that you might want to humble your self and try again. Tell God that you want to believe in Him if He is real and ask HIm to reveal Himself to you.

Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

I've thought about this and I've decided that people who give thumbs down to honest and truthful answers do not agree with the answer and don't want to hear it. Perhaps some people didn't want to hear that you were not touched by the holy spirit because if they believe that to be true, then there's a possibility they could be wrong about their own convictions. Also, and again this is just my opinion, I think they are probably people who have little control over what happens to them in their lives offline and are probably have very low self-esteem and not many friends. This thumbs down stuff gives them a feeling of having some kind of power or control of things. What say you?

Because, instead of giving a thumbs up because they thought it was a good answer and answered the question, or a thumbs down if they didn't think it was a good answer because it didn't answer the question, they give you a rating based on whether they AGREE with you or not. I, personally, whether I agree with the answer or not, give a rating based on if the answer was a good one, not necessarily if I agreed with it. Unofrtunately, if the answer supports their cause but doesn't answer the question, they will give it a thumbs up, or if it was a good answer that they didn't agree with, they will give it a thumbs down. People abuse the ratings system and "hijack" their meaning. In this section (R & S) particularly, I've noticed that if an answer supported a religious belief, and was genuinly a good answer, all those who were not supporters of that religion gave it a thumbs and down, and all those who were that religion gave it a thumbs up. This is just a hypothesis I have, as there is no way of telling who gave the ratings. Good luck!

Edit:

Your answer to the question concerning prayer was honest and straight to the point, therefore I would have given it a thumbs up. One may not have lied your answer, but your answer was legitimate, thus it deserved a thumbs up.

There are a lot of bigots on here. I myself have given a thumbs down to answers just because they were wrong. And i'm not going to say every person's "truth" is the same, because JESUS is the TRUTH. But some people are ignorant of this, and some people are in denial of this. If you have the answer JESUS would give i will give you a thumbs up, or if you are honest and give a morally correct or faithful answer i will give you a thumbs up, if you give a morally incorrect answer i give a thumbs down.

But some just do it for spite. For instance a homosexual will always critisize Catholic Doctrine on lust and homosex.

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

Remember, not only is Y!A a public forum (which is why we get so many trolls, and anonymity), but it is also a total grab-bag, random popularity contest.
Since in a "question and answer" forum other answer-people have limited ability to comment on other answers all we can do is thumb Up, Down, or Flag.

I have been known to Up a comment because I agree totally with an answer, only partly, one word, a quote, or maybe just their picture.

It is just an entertainment after all.

They did not like your answer.
God loves you even if you didn't get that pony you asked for. Sometimes God makes us wait for the things he knows we cannot handle or would be bad for us right now.
You have to remember that God is not like ordinary people who cave in to us when we continually beg for something.
he is hard as a rock and will not be swayed by our constant complaining.
God is a hard person to get to know and an even harder being to understand just know that he IS doing everything for YOUR own good and be happy with that. I know sometimes that isn't good enough when we think we are in dire need of something but if you look at the end result you will realize that what ever happened did work out for the best. Hope this helps.
God does love you.

Just because you are truthful in your own opinion doesn't mean that everyone else will like your answer or agree with you.
