I was talking to a man currently in the Military { no I am not going to say his name } and I asked him - Why are all soldiers in the U.S. Military not trained as Navy Seals ? After all one would think they would be unstoppable .

He then looked at me as though he was thinking , then looked away and calmy said - Unstoppable indeed but if all U.S. soldiers were trained as Navy Seals wars would end alot quicker .

Question - What are your thoughts on this ?

It's true.

But, the washout rate would be through the roof. The washout rate in Seal training itself is very high.

The military, in basic training, has to find a delicate balance between being hard and not hard so as to motivate the individuals that move through basic to pursue excellence in their chosen fields. Not all those that go through Basic will go into combat, most will have desk jobs.

Most people just don't have the make up (mental and physical) to go through the rigorous training that is Seal Training.

Not everyone can be a navy seal, almost anyone can be a soldier. Navy seal training is so intense that most peoples pain threshold gives in and they simply quit. In Navy SEAL
training you are allowed to quit at any time. Navy SEAL training selects those individuals from all branches who have been deemed "among the best" from this group like 10% actually make it through training.

hmm, interesting thought. Although it has a major flaw. It costs millions of dollars just to train one seal. Where exactly is all the money to do this gonna come from. The defense budget would be up in the trillions. Not to mention that the length and the extent of the training would be a huge deterrent to many people joining the military.

Navy Seals are Special Forces. They are special , select group of strong, brave, fierce men and some women. But our Military needs other Special Forces, like Snipers, Rangers, Demolitions, Pilots, Infantry, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy. Snipers, play a major role in Conquering the enemy. So I guess, the Navy Seals are great , and place them with , on land Snipers and Rangers, it is a big WIN !!

You completely ignore tactics and strategy. Wouldn't it be better to train all Navy SEALs as BUFF drivers. While the thought of being shot with a .30 caliber round is scary. The razing of entire sections of real estate, large or small, with impunity has its advantages. Many countries have UDTs only we have and can afford to fly B-52s. Not bang, bang, bang, but rather, BOOMBOBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM etc. etc. truly the sound of freedom . Oh but wait even the best buff drivers can't fix P-58 jet engines so were gonna need at least one mechanic. And a guard or two. A cook. You get the idea.

The problem with your idea is that most people can not complete SEAL training. Another issue is that SEAL training is intensive and expensive. Meaning that we would only be able to field a very small military if we were to pursue this avenue.

That is a little like asking why airplanes are not made out of the same stuff that black boxes are. It just would not be practical to have everyone in the military trained to that standard. No to mention as has been pointed out so well above you need people to keep the gear running too.

Not anyone can be a seal. They are elite athletes to begin with and are then molded into super soldiers. Picture your buddy from the D&D group who served 4 years as a driver in the army. Now imagine him in SEAL training. Now laugh.

Person means why isnt every soldiers traind as hard. I would say, becuase 90% of people already in military cant make it tyhrough. So you have the best, then some people that are good but not seals good. so instead of us army of 3 million we would have a use army of coubple hundred thouhsand.

There are other jobs, while maybe not as glamorous as the Seals or Rangers, but every bit as necessary.
Wheeled vehicle mechanic, supply clerk, medical technician, carpenter, quartermaster,, dental records specialist, etc etc. All necessary, all essential.
No, you're not going to impress the girls by saying you're going to be a plumber,, but the troops might appreciate the fact that you helped make it possible for them to take a hot shower.
