I'm looking for some advice on how to deal with wealthy people in a classy mean way. My new job requires that I deal with them on a daily basis and they don't like it when you are friendly and smile a lot.

So far I have gotten a lot of good advise. I may of worded it wrong, but I am not looking to be mean myself, but I am dealing with millionaires who have no sense of humor and are very cut and dry, never really smile. So I need to know how to deal with them as I am someone who tends to be very smiley and energetic.

Anyone, whether a millionaire or a taxi driver, will pick up on a hostile attitude and they will respond accordingly. It's not the smile that matters, if you are gritting your teeth at the same time. :-)

Tune in to your better self --- as with any person, give them some slack --- assume that they are kindly (even if they aren't smiling) and remind yourself that nobody is out to get you. Remain true to your warmest and most genuine character traits in all your dealings and you will be amazed how quickly their response to you turns around --- because when people pick up on a friendly attitude, they will respond accordingly to that as well.

Even if people are rude, let it slide and keep on going. It's not worth ruining your day over if someone isn't friendly in response.

Forget classy mean, and just be classy.

Remove all the warmth from your demeanor and replace it with icy politeness. Remember in your dealings with these people that they don't see you as a person; you are simply an interface between them and what they want. If you were to collapse in a bleeding heap they would be looking for a replacement, not an ambulance.

You need to belittle everyone else around you, show them that you are of the same breed as they are, lures them into that false sense of confidence. Then, when their nose is high enough in the air, whack them in the face with a shovel, that's what I do...

Be professional yet polite. You're not there to make friends with these people. Remember that you are just as good as they are. that's why you have been employed to do this job and do it sucessfully. But don't stop smiling, that's robbing you of your own joy for life.

You don't have to be mean, just impersonal. They want to get their needs met without investing anything in the interaction, so just do the job without chitchat and avoid eye contact unless they ask you something.

I would re-think that train of thought...as they are your clients/customers it would not be a good career move to be rude. Unfortunately in business, esp dealing with the public you have to swallow a lot of crap from people...but to "get back" at them would be detrimental to your business future.

Keep calling them Biff or Buffy regardless of what their name is. If their real name is one of the above, then call them Hortence or Cleetus. They love that s#!t..

Just act like a total snob just like them. Use a fake British accent just to amuse yourself!
