I am a wedding officiant in Tx, and there are so many places in Tx that are fabulous vacation options. If you want something beachy, Port Aransas or Rockport are fabulous, more touristy than Corpus, but Corpus Christi and South Padre are nice too.
Port Aransas has so many condos, hotels, houses, all types of options to stay at. You can rent different kinds of cute golf carts to ride around the beach and town. You can go on dolphin tours, horseback riding on the beach, there are so many shops to browse through, and the food is outstanding, you can choose from quaint, fancy, casual, whatever you are looking for. There is a great ice cream shop, the beach is good. There is the Tx Treasures gambling boat, if you are into that.
Galveston and Kemah are fun. There lots of good bed and breakfast type places in Kemah. One of our favories are small houses, and she doesn't serve breakfast, but she leaves you a fridge full of drinks and snacks. You also get a golf cart with your stay to cruise around Kemah and the boardwalk, and let me tell you, there is no better way. The Aquarium restaurant is very cool and romantic, and the boardwalk is fun.
There are cruises that leave from Galvaston that can take you almost anywhere, I have heard of Jamacia and the Bahamas.
The Frio river is fun and relaxing. Try Garner of Concan, many places rent cabins. There is nothing more relaxing then tubing down a river, which is flowing very nice and deep right now. Many places have planned activities, like dances and dinners at night, probably more casual, but it depends on the kind of people you are.
San Antonio, the riverwalk, there is so much to do in San Antonio. You could spend weeks there and not get tired of it. The Meanger hotel is wonderful, historic, romantic, and in a great location downtown, near the riverwalk. There is food, shopping, horse-drawn carriage rides, all kinds of places to visit, you can't go wrong in San Antonio.
Also, New Braunsfels, San Marcos, Austin, all very fun places to visit. New Braunsfels has Gruene, which has some great restaurants, shops, and the oldest dance hall in Tx. Austin is excentric and has Lake Travis. All of those places are fun get-a-ways.
Can you tell we like to travel? Hope that helps some, if you have any other questions about these places, feel free to e-mail me! Best wishes!

I live between Houston and Galveston, and although Galveston is nice the beaches really leave something to be desired.
Not too far from Houston is Kemah which is right on the water has a lot of nice antique shops and a boardwalk with restaurants and a small amusement park.
South Padre Island and Corpus Christi have beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue water.
San Antonio has a lot of attractions, stay on the riverwalk and there is your water! We are going there for our anniversary and I can't wait!

My vote is for San Antonio. You could Honeymoon there and stay on the Riverwalk and do day trips to Austin (which is also one of my faves).
You could also go to Arkansas. They have some beautiful lakes, especially near Hot Springs. Hot Springs itself has an amusement park, alligator farm, massages and natural hot spring baths, beautiful historic hotels, and even mountains (somewhat). My husband and I went there once for a romantic vacation and had a blast. We did all the above plus rented jet skis. One night we took a romantic dinner sunset cruise on the lake. It was very nice. The Crater of Diamonds State Park is also close and you can pan/dig for diamonds. Plus it is close to Texas so you would be able to drive home quickly if there was an emergency.

If you just want be by the water, but not necessarily swim, you should go to San Antonio. The riverwalk is so romantic, and everything you need is within walking distance (walk to great TexMex, Italian, steak, or even ice cream; sit outside and listen to jazz while watching the world go by), or you can just stay in your hotel room. La Mansion del Rio is an excellent choice for romance - ask for champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and rose petals to be in your room when you arrive, and let the concierge point you to the best dining.

If you want to swim or sit on the beach, the best beaches in Texas (other than South Padre, which tends to be overrun with college kids and is less romantic) are near Corpus Christi (North Padre and Port Aransas).

Galveston, Corpus Christi are good on the water places. There's some beautiful hotels in Galveston or you can rent a beach house for not too much. Good restaurants there, fun stores on the strand, fun things to do there. Corpus Christi is beautiful too.

HHHAAAAA!! Texas for a honeymooon. Why don't you just book a room in backwards-town-hell?!!! Seriously, Oklahoma City is better than all of Texas. I'm sure you can think of something nicer....if you are from Texas, trust me, there are better places to honeymoon...
