No... it just the juices drying on your skin.
It's just like peeling an orange with your fingers.
There's always a residual coating of white chalky stuff from the pith.

Guessing here, but... red onions (red apples and blueberries) have anthocyanins which makes them red. When foods with anthocyanins come in contact with non-acidic and or starchy foods such as flour, there is a chemical reaction which causes them to give off a bluish-green color. (Have you ever seen a greenish ring around blueberries in muffins? Same thing.)
Maybe something like that happened to your hands? If you're not sure, wear food-safe gloves when you handle red onions next time. Some people are sensitive to onions, but that usually causes itching, burning or redness, not chalky green hands, lol, poor thing.
My hands get itchy when handling/peeling too many mangos or papayas and I have to wear gloves.

So that's what happened to the Hulk.
Probably a reaction with the acid in the onion and some
household chemical. Potato can cause skin irritation.
Unpleasant rather than dangerous I would think.

It's the natural purple dye in the onion reacting with your body chemistry much the same way jewelry can turn green on some people.
Just wait until you have a child and feed them grape kool-aid! It can literally turn their bowel movements green. I always like to hear new parents freak out over this.

You need to be very careful with the chilli pepper - wash hands thoroughly after preparing, don't touch your mouth or eyes.
Haven't heard of universal problems with red onions - they always stain my hands red when preparing them. An allergic reaction, maybe. Wear thin latex gloves next time.

Raw cashew shells are toxic. That is why cashews are always sold shelled in this country.
