Cardio, That is, doing something to get your heart rate in fat burning mode, between 65 and 70% capacity.
to find out how fast this is, subtract your age from 220, then multiply the number by first .65 for the minimum, and .70 for the maximum.
example: you are 20 years old, so 220-20 = 200, x .65 = 130
200 x .70 = 140......so you want to keep your heart rate between 130 and 140 (if you were 20) for at least 30 minutes.
this will throw your body into fat burning mode for at least 10 to 15 hours after the work out
examples: brisk walk uphill, dancing, aerobics, jogging, etc.
hope that helps

There is no magic formula to losing weight. It's simply a matter of using more calories than you put in. Thus, there are two possible things you can do: use more, or put less in. As far as "using more", any cardiovascular exercise will help you to boost your metabolism. Also, I have heard that eating several small meals a day rather than three meals a day will help to boost metabolism. Also, strength training (i.e. building muscle) will help, because muscle burns calories even when at rest, so building your muscles a little bit will help to burn more too. It's not a bad idea to consult with your doctor about your exercise plans.

Exercises themselves burn calories - everybody knows that - but another dividend is the raised metabolism afterward. This is measured by excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). Now any exercise will up the metabolism; however, some will do the job better than others.
Research suggests that fast, intense exercise raises the metabolism to a greater degree (Enamait 158). What this means is, interval training ups your EPOC more than a simple steady run. It's also more effective for developing aerobic capacity, which is why all good runners practice it (Tulloh 44).
These intervals depend on what you're capable of doing and what you're training for: runners will do it on their feet (duh), boxers may do it with calisthenics. You can mix and match depending on what you want to achieve.
Increased muscle mass also contributes to EPOC (Staley 4). That means resistance training is another great way to lose fat.
Staley uses both the points here to support his own weight-training method, escalating density training (EDT). I find this very intriguing, but want to see the results. (Since I haven't seen any study of EDT, my own body will have to be the laboratory; fortunately I'm conducting the experiment, and it seems encouraging.)
Hope this helps, and good luck in your workouts!
