mexico of course!
We have different traditions in each of the 32 states that conform the mexican republic.
In every one, there is an specific kind of food, culture, landscapes, weather, traditions, etc.
For example chiapas has great food and places to visit like san cristobal de las casas or el cañon del sumidero. Oaxaca have the gelaguetza party where you can apreciate the dances and know about the history of it, of course the arquitecture is glorious and the food amazing.
Quintana Roo is famous for the beaches on the riviera maya, like cancun, playa del carmen, cozumel and tulum.
Yucatan have also great food and a lot of ruins and cenotes, like chichenitza, coba, etc.
Well , i would never end, but defenetly mexico is much more rich in culture, history and culinary that any other country in latin america.

You can taste excelent meat in north part of mexico, also in the rest part of mexico sea food, tacos, mole, chocolate, café, cheese, tamales, churros, atole, garnachas, mangos and lots of different fresh fruits and vegetables, chiles, herbs etc

No country in latin america is 'THE BEST' They all have their great qualities, the food, the people, the landscapes, and they all have their bad areas, all of them. Every country in latin america is amazing in one form or another.

Guatemala is a stunning country. The people are friendly and their culture is vibrant. Everything about the place is excellent. Antigua is a UNESCO World Heritage city with good reason, and Lake Atitlan is a candidate for being the most beautiful place on earth. Tikal was the New York City of the Mayan world. You can't miss with Guatemala. Happy travelling!

Colombia. Even though is categorized as a violent country, this has gotten better. The landscapes are beautiful!! there are rainforests, the Andes range ends up here, so it divides in 3 giving you mountains all over the country; however, it also has plains, and to tell you more it has a desert in the coastline! not far from Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta which is a snowing mountain! isn't that amazing?! People and food are amazing! you can find anykind of fruit that you could have probably never seen before and it all very tasty. You can enjoy different kind of weather, cold, hot, warm, any time of the year. If you are in a cold weather city get your car and drive a couple of hours and you will get to a hot weather city where you can get in the pool ! People are so nice and helpful! etc, Colombia is a beautiful country

My wife and I have been in all of the countries in South America and most of those in Central America.

By any measure, Brazil is so far out in front that there's really no comparison. As Eduardo says, in his answer, there's every kind of natural beauty one could hope to see, rivers, mountains, forests, beaches, many large cities, many smaller cities, and, as a large country, their important history dates back into the 1500's........Salvador Bahia is an example.

Some of the cities in Brazil that many have never heard of are outstanding, Curitiba is an example, you would think that you were somewhere in Europe.

The food is wonderful, their vegetables are absolutely the best, they have avocadoes like we've never seen anywhere else in the world. I'm from Hawai'i and thought we had big mango trees. By Brazil's standards, the trees in Hawai'i are dwarfs.

They have some of the most unusual trees like cashew and Brazil nuts, every imaginable variety of birds, flowers, I could go on describing the place.

And their people are friendly to a fault, if you approach them properly and with respect, they will drop everything to help you. But I think that's true in most places.

Sure, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico and the rest mentioned here all have great things about them but they cannot even begin to compare with the magnitiude of Brasilia.

The best country in Latin America is obviously Brazil.

It is not only the largest, but also the most varied and the most magical.

Brazil has got it all, from mountains, to plains; from the largest tropical rainforest on Earth (Amazon) to the largest river (Amazon River) to the largest and most varied swamp on earth (the Pantanal) to Latin America's largest city (Sao Paulo) to the top tourist attraction in South America, which is the city of Rio de Janeiro, to the best soccer team on the planet.

It is the land with one of the most varied racial mixtures, and it also is one of the few countries in South America that doesn't speak spanish.

The people there are also very friendly, on my last visit to Rio, I, just like any other tourist, was greeted with smiles and the warth of the Brazilian people.

The food, also, is very unique. In Minas Gerais, a Brazilian state, per say, you will find the wonders of Brazilian food, wether homemade or in a restaurant. On of the appetizers I would definitelly reccomend is the famous cheesebread (pao de queijo).

Rio is not a very safe city though, that I will admit, but you just have to know where to be to keep yourself from the bad areas. And domestic violence is not ubiquitous in Brazil, many areas (such as the small towns and rural areas) have a very low and almost innexistent crime rate.

I have been to many countries in South America, but my favorite is Brazil, by far.

HAHAHHAHAHA, this question has no answer as everyone will tell you it's their country!!
To me, the best country is Peru. You've said that your criteria is based on history (Incas and Precolombian cultures!), lanscapes (Peru has 4 natural regions, sea, coast, highlands and jungle), food (do I need to say Peru's food is the best in the world?) and its people!! We do cover all 4 criteria so yes, Peru is the best country in Latin America. Am I being biased? Of course! I was born in Peru, I live in Peru and I would die in Peru. I love Peru!!

Brazil for me > Salvador de Bahia specifically (Heavy Afro-Brazilian population) I must say though, that it is truly sad how much racial discrimination exists in Latin American countries (Seems as though many people are terrified to be identified as black)
