Yes, your dog is a prime candidate for diabetes. It may already be too late. How can you help him? Get him on a diet immediately. Take him to the vet and decide on a course of action to get the weight off your dog. In addition to diabetes, you are risking heart disease and early arthritis as well.
You owe it to your friend to get him healthy-he is depending on you!

YES dogs can get diabetes. There are many humans afflictions that exist in a dog version.
To reduce the chances of diabetes you'd do the same basic things for a human or dog..watch weight, diet, intake of sugars (NO on HUMAN FOOD), plenty of exercise and regular vet exams.
If a dog does get diabetes and get properly diagnosed and is put on proper meds and treatment they can still live happy, full lives.

YES!!!
both dogs and cats can get diabetes from being overweight. I would definitely get him on a regular diet and exercise program. If he develops diabetes, he can still live a happy life but you will have to give him daily insulin shots in his stomach.
By the way, there are 2 types of diabetes, one is inherited and the other is developed later in life due to habits.

Yes, dogs can develop diabetes and other weight-related illnesses. Extra weight is just as harmful to animals as it is to humans but they can't tell us when they don't feel good and they receive less medical care than we do.
The best thing you can do is visit your vet and get your beagle on a weight-reduction plan. This may involve special food and I'm sure more exercise. But you will want to see your vet because weight gain can be a symptom of another illness such as a thyroid problem.

Yup he can. Being over weight can lead to diabetes in dogs, and humans too.
Get he dog on a good weight management food. No table food at all. No fatty snacks. No dog treats. Walk the dog. Play with the dog inthe back yard.

Most definitely dogs and cats can get diabetes. The symptoms are the same as they are with humans. First get your dog to his ideal weight . It is very hard for dogs to loose weight but you must be persistent. If you suspect diabetes have the dog tested by the vet who if tested positive with treat the dog very similar to humans with diet/pills/and or even insulin injections if needed.

Many animals can get diabetes. A vet can test for this & get your beagle started on proper lifestyle changes & medication if necessary.
One of our cats was diabetic & he did very well on a modified diet & insulin injections twice a day I was terrified about giving him the shots but the vet techs were great about showing us how, answering questions & offering as much help as we needed. It didn't take long to become confident about giving the old guy his insulin. Unfortunately we lost him to lymphoma, totally unrelated to the diabetes.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/x15TB
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.
