I understand that, for some of you, it is a matter of God branding homosexuality an abomination. So, you feel gay marriage is wrong. But do you, personally, have any feelings on the issue? Do you, personally, see anything wrong with gay marriage beyond the fact that God says it's wrong? Or would you not really care except for the Bible? Can you give any reasons beyond it being wrong according to the Bible for banning gay marriage?
I'm just curious.

These are some very good answers. I completely disagree with some of you, but I'm glad to see some real, honest answers to the question.
And I love you Father K - "stick their junk"? That's hilarious coming from you!

well other than God branding homosexuality an abomination....not really. It depends..becuause there are gay people..and then there are those freaks who (for example) dress and act like the opposite sex. This is what bothers me because it seems like they just want attention..also its just abnormal which is why I think it bothers most people so much.

Being a member of a church that feels that the act of homosexuality is a sin (not the person themselves), it is tough to separate us from believing how immoral it is and believing that the sanctity of marriage should be held. Already, the world is deluged with entertainers getting married and a week later filing for divorce due to irreconcilable differences (ala Britney Spears 52 hour marriage). The one thing we as U.S. citizens do is vote. In California, for example, the citizens of this state voted to assure that marriage is set to be between a man and a woman. This overwhelmingly passed by over 62+% of the voting block. Even the most liberal cities in California (San Francisco and Los Angeles) had a strong voter turnout that agreed with the much of the state. Yes, a lot of churches supported the proposition and they made a lot of headway into the minds of the voters. One of the biggest problems within the states and country is that we have leftist factions that seem to want the courts to legislate from the bench and force the majority to conform to their ideas, especially same sex marriage. I feel this is wrong and the courts have usurped the ideas of the Constitutions Checks and Balances. Tried as they did, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling of overturning the passed proposition failed in the highest court in California. This will not end and unfortunately, there are many lawyers out there that will try to force their ideas on us by clogging up the court systems with their frivolous lawsuits.
P.S.: To Gnostic and bluestareyed,
The First Amendment guarantees the freedom of worshipping or exercising our freedom to believe in anything we want, be it God, Allah, Buddha, or anything else. No where in the Constitution does it say, a separation of church and state. That little tidbit was introduced by Chief Justice Hugo Black relating to the case of Everson v. New Jersey. A case about state controlled bussing for religious schools. Everson lost, but it was Justice Black, reading from a now famous letter (little known at that time) from President Thomas Jefferson to the Baptist of Danbury, Con. The "wall of separation" edict in the letter was misinterpreted by Justice Black.
And as for the abortion question of legality. Yes, it is legal in all state, but this was not voted for by the states or the people, this was decided again by an out of control Supreme Court in the Roe v. Wade case. The woman that took the moniker of Roe now regrets the decision she made, 34 years ago.

I think the "stick their junk" comment is entirely uncalled for.
I really like the question - have you noticed that not anyone has actually answered it yet?
From what I gather, what your getting at is that it is homophobia, plain and simple. Furthermore, bringing god into it is just a way of finding a scape goat for said homophobia.
It's all just hate cloaked in religion.

I think that marriage is between one man and one woman. If to same sex people should get married, they should have the union for the same sex people rahter than stretch marriage to be something what it is not.
God would never wish us to have gay marrage, so at least do not make gay marriage something that God would bless.

my only thing is, if their god is really against it, then he can strike me dead as i get to the altar. then we will know for proven fact that god is against gay marriage.
hey father k? does this sound familiar? "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion etcetcetc"
you are constitutionally protected sweetcakes!
woops! was that your argument flying out the window chicken little?
and for the rest of you : how do you know god is against gay marriage? has he spoken to you personally? you know, 2000 years ago, you heard voices and you were a prophet. now, if you hear voices, that means youre schizophrenic. just a tip.

God said nothing about gay marriage. The authors of the Bible were homophobic.
We live in a country of many beliefs but only one law. That this law should be biased is against common sense. Fairness should be a self evident attribute of law. People think abortion is wrong too but it's legal.
When my child had to be aborted due to medical complications I cried until I ran out of tears. I haven't cried since and will not cry again. While entering the clinic for the procedure (entering hell) I had to pass through a crowd of daemons that were screaming at me that I was a murderer.
These are the same people that confidently stand against gay marriage. When my brothers partner was dying of lung cancer after 28 years of monogamy the hospital refused to allow anyone that wasn't family to visit.
Have a heart people.
Blessed Be!

adam and eve, not adam and steve...HOW ORIGINAL! when will people stop saying this witless expression?
why can't these intolerant people just come out and say it? when they hear the word homosexual, they all visualize one MALE sticking his penis up another MALE's bum. and they find that disgusting don't they? but if the recipient is FEMALE, they have no problem with it.
i think, once these intolerant bigots learn to look pass their imagined abhorrence of anal sex, many then wouldn't give a jot if gay people get married or not.

personally as a gay man, I have no need for government or religious approval of who I love and share my life with. IF some gay & lesbians feel they need that then they should be able to have it, but I for one do not need it.

Here is an article written by a self described civil libertarian, who, as far as I know, does not hold any religious beliefs, yet he makes a compelling argument against same sex marriage. It is too long to post here.

I personally disagree with gay marriages BECAUSE God says its wrong.... It's also VERY nasty!! God meant for a marrige to be between a man and a woman, he made Adam and Eve to be together and have children, not Adam and Steve! â¼
