i organize mine by catagory. breakfast, appetizers, dips, sauces, dressings, salads, soups, desserts, breads, etc.
then with main menu items i organize basic dishes by ingredient (chicken, seafood, etc.) and more specifics by ethnicity (italian, chinese, etc.)
i have a small box for 3x5s given to me, and the rest i put in binders. i put them in plastic sleeves so when i'm cooking, if i get something on them, they're not ruined.

I organize mine two ways:
1. Recipes that are tried-and-true favorites, I write on index cards and keep alphabetically in a recipe file box. Since I'm familiar with them, it is easy to remember their names.
2. Recipes I've cut from magazines, etc., I paste onto paper and keep in protective plastic sleeves (so I can wipe off the inevitable splats and spills) in a 3-ring hard-bound notebook. I use index tab dividers to separate the pages by food type, i.e., entrees, salads, appetizers, beverages, desserts, etc.
Good luck! Cooking at home is rewarding, healthy, and fun!

This is always a challenge - but I have found a card file and a notebook to be my best options - I use the notebook for web printed and those i have typed up and an index card file for jotting them down on the fly and keep them sorted by the same categories as used i most cook books (appetizer, salad, side, main and dessert). Hope this helped!

don't learn the processes and make your own recipes, start by using spice mixes by origin like Mexican,Italian, etc and organize ingredients not recipes
