My plan to help losing weight is to weigh myself each morning, even though some people have told me not to and instead weigh myself on a weekly basis. I like the idea of weighing on a daily basis because although I'll only see small progress (and some days none at all) but if I get into the habit then it will be constantly on my mind and it will influence what I eat.

I've dieted before a few times and lost a few stone here and there, but something happens at some point and the weight just piles back on.

Do you think weighing on a daily basis will help me to overcome this obsession I have with food? Best answer for 10 points!

I think you are the best judge of what kind of monitoring regime is likely to help you. As long as you don't seriously read anything into daily changes and treat them as a bit of fun it shouldn't do you any harm.

I am more worried about the way you are dieting. I am going to suggest that you list your favourite bad foods and think of a healthy alternative(s) for each which might like to have instead. If you replace foods rather than denying yourself, you are much less likely to have problems.

My second suggetsion is always make a shopping list for food and try to stick to it. If the food isn't avaiable you can't eat it.

Best of luck

It will not be in your best interest to weigh everyday because the little difference you see in a day might help you but sometimes you might feel you are putting in so much and seeing very little results. The day you let down the guard and eat extra when you step on the scale two days after you might get discouraged. The exercise and food rationing of today will not show on your scale that soon. It takes over 24 hrs for the excess food to change into excess fat that will show on your scale Best thing is target a reasonable pounds to loose within 1 week and see how you do at the end of that week GOOD LUCK

No in fact it will make u more obsessed over food. Our bodies weight changes everyday naturally with water retention. I would weight every other week on the same day as close to the same time as possible. But a much better way to see if u've made a difference is using a pair of pants for a measuring tool. If your pants are fitting better or looser, then u know u're doing a good job. After all muscle weight much more than fat. So if ur adding muscle to ur body, it will weight more. However, it will look better and ur dress size will get smaller. If u can't resist the scale, do it on the same day each week, just keep in mind about the water retention!!!!

Well, it hasn't helped me.
I weigh myself every morning, and i step off, slightly disappointed, because I've expected a miracle to occur and I'm suddenly down by like a stone, when realistically i know that won't happen.

But as you seem to know that the difference will be small when weighing on a daily basis, so you're obviously more rational that me =].

It'd be an idea to weigh yourself weekly though, because the bigger difference in weight loss might be the motivation you need to lose the weight, because you know it's working, and you know that your hard work is paying off.

Good luck x

I think it probably won't. I used to weigh myself everyday and it got depressing. Especially if the needle on the scales popped up instead of down. This made me want to eat more out of comfort and pity for myself. Now I try not to weigh myself at all. I go on my body shape.

I have been reading up on eating foods that are supposed to trigger weightloss. This has just been in the last 3 weeks, so I'm unsure if it actually works, as yet.

It says that foods high in vitamin C dissolve fat so that the body can get rid of it easier when excercising. I hear all the time that icy water suppresses hunger. I try to drink when I feel hungry at a non meal time, but I think there lies the problem, as I tend to drink fruit juices, tea and coffee.

Getting back to the question. Don't weigh yourself, as it is just pure torture.

Instead, put some clothes on that make you feel good and then stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself and feel your best bits.

The only way to weigh your self accurately is at the same time each day and without any cloths on. Wearing different cloths can make a couple of pounds difference so you would think you have gained weight some days and lost more on others

I know they suggest you don't do that but I weigh every couple of days anyway. I am trying to lose a little weight & I want to be on top of things if I start going in the wrong direction. Do what ever you want. As long as you understand you won't see results every day & don't get discouraged you'll be fine. You might keep a diary to see from week to week what the results are but you can stay on top of it from day to day.

Weigh yourself before bed, it'll reflect on what you've eaten all day. At least you'll feel better or worse about it all night long, then will try improve it the next morning. So try to weigh yourself the next morning after a sleepless night!

I see your point about daily progress but obsessing like this will affect you self esteem. Try weighing yourself a little less like twice a week.
