First of all, protein shakes are FATTENING, no matter what anyone tells you. I work in a gym and protein shakes are meant to bulk you up. Weight trainers drink protein shakes and eat protein bars to bulk muscle. You are on the right track though, no matter how frustrating it is. Just cut out those protein shakes. Instead, eat chicken or fish for protein and stay far away from CARBS after 6pm. Of course, don't eat about 4 hours before you go to bed either. You will get food pains, but just down a glass of cold water and wait a few minutes. These pains will eventually go away. Also, when you are working out, make sure you are working out hard and sweating, otherwise, it's just a waste of time. The whole reason to drink so much water in a day is to replenish the water you are sweating off. You are eating processed food? Big no no. They said when you go grocery shopping, only buy 4% in the outside isles. A good way to satisfy your cravings and lose weight is by eating food you and enjoy and still feel satisfied. Sometimes we must make sacrifices, but once you are down to your ideal weight, you will be able to be a little more flexible because you will just be maintaining your weight, not burning it off. Eggs are actually awesome for losing weight and you will feel quite pleasantly full. Here's a little cheater I tell everyone to use, eat one boiled egg every morning with a slice of whole grain toast. This is a good fat burner. Another fat burner is plain green tea. Do not add milk or sugar, not even sweetener, because sweetener is not good for you either. Green tea helps burn more calories, especially at bed time. Hope this helps!!

He couldn't be drinking more than 3 gallons a day. He'd be dead. Water actually becomes a diuretic beyond a certain point. So drinking too much water can unbalance a person's electrolytes, at least.
Drinking a lot of water can be a symptom of diabetes, though a friend of mine had a son who was always drinking water, and tests for diabetes always came out negative. He just liked water.
If he's been tested for health problems, and has none, don't worry about it.

He is probably working his kidneys to death. He may also be losing lots of vitamins and minerals in the process. Drinking too much water can really mess up your body chemistry.
5 gallons of water weighs over 40 pounds.
That is over 9 2-liter bottles of the stuff. Next time you are at the supermarket, look at a display of 2 liter bottles and think that this guy is drinking 9 of those full of water a day.

It all depends on how much he drinks per hour. If he drank 20 ounces of water per hour and was working hard? Not a problem. If he sits down and consumes a gallon an hour. He can die. Your body will let you know quite quickly. If you throw up water, you have had too much obviously.

Is water the only things he is drinking???
If it is then he needs to get it checked out by a doctor...even if its not he still needs to see a docter because there could be something wrong with his food diet or even a disease.

If he keeps doing it, It will flush out all the electrolites in his body and will become very dehydrated. We had a couple of kids do this when I was in Afganastan .... thinking that they were hydrating themsevles and had a heat stroke and had to be medi-vaced to germany. So please tell your friend to stop drinking so much.
