The military experience is great, but many agencies are also looking for the degree. Since you are going reserves will you be attending college also?

As far as dying....if you are afraid of it you are putting yourself in two situations where it is a higher risk. With the Marines you could be sent into battle, with being a Police Officer you are dealing with people that don't want to go to jail, or hate cops.

Might want to think about your career choices.

Several advantages. Small towns like to hire military especially if their military skill was military Police.

Other benefits include getting to use military points once to get hired and once again to attain rank.

As far as being killed in the line of duty, being in the military is definitely more likely to get you killed. Our town has been around for 170 years. We have had 2 Police personnel killed in the line of duty. One, a town constable in 1857 and an officer in 1935.

Just don't go into either with John Wayne on your mind and you'll do ok.( nothing against John Wayne, just the wrong attitude)

Military experience is a plus when it comes to law enforcement. As for being killed, given the amount of law enforcement personal in the country, you probably have a better chance of dying of old age, then actually getting killed (unless of course, you do something stupid on the job.)
