The farther you stay away from Manhattan the cheaper. Just remember plenty of ways to commute into Manhattan. Look for hotels in New Jersey, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, or the Bronx.

There are some great deals on http://www.IGottaGetOuttaHere.com . I found a nice hotel and car deal for the weekend for about $200.

pod hotel - grat location too!!! just southeast of central park - check it out on tripadvisor.
