We often hear the charge, unsubstantiated by anything other than, "Because the Bible says so," which isn't valid. Can anyone offer a plausible, reasonable, and verifiable explanation?

I can offer PLENTY of explanations.

1. raising children in SIN
2. crime against NATURE
3. increased DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
4. increased cases of CHILD ABUSE
5. makes children CONFUSED
6. makes children subjects of RIDICULE at their SCHOOL
7. does not give children the right to learn about the LORD at home
8. alienates children from the CHURCH

I find the idea of same sex marriage destroying traditional marriage really stupid--almost laughable--if not for the serious implications.

The 'Moral Majority' who want this are simply lambs being led by the Conservative leaders. The issue is intended to distract American voters. The issues of abortion, gay marriage, immigration reform (and others) are called wedge issues and are simply introduced before each election to solidify the Extreme left or right vote. The truth of the matter is the neither party really wants these issues to go away. (proof is in the fact that the Republicans held all three branches of government and did not bring sweeping reform) These types of issues have nothing to do with governing but they bring in excessive amounts of money and solidify the Left and Right votes. If the issues were to go away, then we lambs have nothing to focus on except the tragic fascism that has taken over our political system in the last 30 years.

everything the United States Was Built on is outlined in the Constitution and Declaration of Independance (which the conservative party has shredded lately) Read, the the We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
Constitutional bans on gay marriage write descrinination into our Constitution--what is not impeachable about that?

TS--What is a threat is someone who believes that minority oppression is okay. Your answer makes me scared. What happens if people with avtars without hats decide that the 2% with hats should be removed from the answers site. Would you get upset by that.....same idea as what you state

I'll ask a reverse question to your question. If the American family is not under threat from same-sex couples, then why are gay militants so obsessive about changing it?

Group A is the majority and have their functional traditional ways.
Group B is the minority and is outside of Group A.
Why should Group A change for Group B?
They don't share the same beliefs or lifestyles.
Therefor it is Group B's duty to change if they want to fit in with Group A.

Gay politics/movements are the quintessential examples of the few wanting to dominate the many - (2% of the country is queer and they are wanting to force the other 98% of the country to use and accept queer definitions of lifestyle/culture/morality, while at the same time deriding the 98%'s social/moral viewpoints)

The demand for change from outside groups in an expression of that threat.

umm youll never find one. unless u go to the bible where it says its wrong but how can the bible persuade people its right when it was written century's ago. thing is gay marriage isnt wrong at all and i don't know why people take such offense to it. its not like your getting married to them and have to have sex with them. it doesn't effect anyone. freaking dumb. also it gets the homeless and parent less children out of foster care. just because they'll be living in sin based on other peoples opinions doesn't mean they'll be living in sin. just because one person sees something as a sin doesn't mean everyone else does. plus doesn't the bible say to pass judgment is sinful. so stop being a hypocrit and a bad cristian.

There is a reason that God tells us not to so some things. It is for our own protection. The lifestyle leads to health problems and a shorter life span. It leads to feelings of guilt because, deep down they know it is not right. Putting children in this home is harmful to them as they don't have a father and a mother, each of which are uniquely able to provide certain of the child's needs. Two mothers or two fathers doesn't do it. It is like giving someone two hearts and no lungs. Both are fine, but you need each and one won't substitute for the other.

Not really. It is proven that children need parents - medical and psychological authorities do not deem homosexuality as abnormal nor is homosexuality illegal in the US.

Which would you rather have?

1) A trailer full of kids with different daddies - none of which live there and a meth addicted mother.

or

2) A child brought up in a nurturing, two parent household that prioritizes education, civility and common sense.

I don't get it either - grow up people.

My American family is not threatened in the least by same-sex marriage.

There is a perfectly valid argument why the privilege of Sacramental, Christian marriage (specifically) should not be afforded to persons of the same gender. It is not consistent with Christian theology, and therefore the government would be overstepping its bounds to *require* that such marriage be offered to same-sex couples.

However, there is absolutely *no* reason why same-sex couples should lack access to the civil, legal, and financial benefits of legal marriage. To deny them equal access to these rights is horrendously unamerican; it's the equivalent of denying women or minorities the right to vote.

It doesn't, and honestly it shouldn't really matter to them because it doesn't affect them....but....Marriage is defined (anthropologically) as "a socially recognized sexual union" and as sex is defined (among other things including gender, etc.) as sexual intercourse, it would technically be impossible for a homosexual couple to have sex...meaning that they wouldn't be married

My question is why does it matter...why is the homosexual community so concerned about earning this piece of paper that the rest of American society has decided doesn't really mean anything.

So you will find that this isn't really about marriage...it's about the homosexual community's need for acceptance within our society, and marriage is the way in which they hope to acquire it.

1.(having fun with this one) Lets say everyone turns gay, and is in a gay marriage. So there is not procreation, no more children are born. 2. If there are children in a gay marriage, there is a reason why they are to have a mom and a dad. Kids need both in order to help develope healthy social and life skills. It's important to have both male and female aspects in the raising of a child. Each gender serves it's purpose in instilling certains things in the child. The kids needs his dad and mom. If we say that gay marriage is ok. Then down the line, is it possible to have a marriage of two women and one man or two men and one women in a marriage. How far can this go? And what possibilities does it allow for and open the door for?

Personally I have seen few of my friends who have tried hetero-sexual relationships and it didn't work and they became homosexuals. In their situation, I believe a union or friendship is congenial. Marriage to me personally is a union between a man and woman.

I welcome any other views regarding this, as a person myself I am analyzing, and researching everyday to find an answer to find a balance to this question of yours. Very Good question.

American family system is one of the liberal systems in the world. American culture is the most liberal culture where anything goes kind of attitude when it comes to materialism. Alot of other cultures look upto americans(envied, enamoured, etc). With such liberal permission given it would be another step to other forms of Bizarre marriages(for example, someone marrying an animal for instance). What guarantee do we have that the so called 'bizarre marriages' wouldn't be brought up before us for making them legal, if we approve this 'same-sex marriage' ??

The only possible reason that makes sense to me is that people fear if same sex-marriage is allowed either their spouse or themself will run off and marry a member of the same sex. This is the reason I suspect so many people are against it.
