Seriously people, why is it "Satan" having an influence on your life when you make a bad choice? Why do you need an excuse for your poor choices and bad behavior? Would it not be better to admit to yourself that the only reason you did something bad was because you chose to do it? No "Satanic" influence... just you making a poor decision. Wouldn't it be better this way, instead of playing the blame game and deferring to a supernatural influence?

Why are you people saying he planted the idea, instead of saying that the idea came to you and you decided to act on it WITHOUT supernatural influence? Have some self-accountability...

The thing is, there ARE people who literally believe that there is a boogieman that influences their life, and that it isn't just an expression...

bess, you just brought another a supernatural being into the argument as an answer for the worlds horrors. We are what we are, without influence from invisible, non-corporeal beings. And the idea of Satan having influence on us is the fundamental reason behind Christianity, or there would have been no need for the crucifixion.

Ah Worzel, you take all the self accountability.
People that believe in Satan are much scarier than the concept of Satan.

I've been a Christian a long time and was around others even before I was and I have never heard one say this as an excuse for their actions. Sometimes though you have to wonder if something more evil than the heart of man is at work when we see atrocities in the world especially but you are right a lot of times it is just about greed and such but seriously like these serial pedophiles and killers and such can people just think of things like that without some other influence. I mean what makes the serial killers decide torture and taking life is fun? Surely that is the devil. But as for me I've found it best to accept responsibility for my own actions and their consequences and fail to see that any benefit comes from blaming the devil because even if he tricks and influences me to make wrong decisions, ultimately it would be me making them.

The idea of satan making you do something doesn't mean just what it says. What it means is that you were influenced in one direction too strongly for you to handle. Therefor it ends up being a poor choice because people are able to choose and are ultimatly held accountable for those decisions.

It's a way to cop out of personal responsibility or get attention. Not all religious people do this. For example, different Pagan religions place an emphasis on personal responsibility, and there isn't a Satan-character to cause them to do bad things.

Nobody ever does anything bad any more. The devil made me do it, or it's the medication I'm on, I was high on the weed, and a lot of other silly excuses.
If someone would say, I did it because I thought I would get away with it, the judge would faint.

Why not do it when christianity has a built in scapegoat? No one ever needs to worry about personal responsibility again if they just play follow the leader. Darn those "sheeple".

It's a matter of personal responsibility.
People refuse to take responsibility for their own negative actions or inactions, thus they blame it on the cosmic boogey-man.
It's just another way of ducking blame.

Because it's the easy way out.
No one can bring themselves to say " I made a poor decision that has effected many negatively. And for that, I apologize".
No one wants to face reality; that they suck.

It's a figure of speech. I have never seen anyone use this and mean it literally. Chill out.
