I often wonder the same exact thing. They're supposed to be Music Television however, they show more "reality" tv shows then any other channel. They're getting pretty ridiculous!!! UGH

I remember when MTV was ONLY about music videos, I remember watching the first broadcast with the rocket blasting off to 'Video Killed the Radio Star'... it was good back in the day, but now - too much 'reality' and stupid stuff... everyone doesn't have their 'special' channel for just videos so I think they should maybe change the original MTV channel name... I loved watching MTV back then - non stop music videos!

I remember when I was little, I love watching MTV for their music video and couldn't wait for the "World Premiere" videos of my favorite artist and watching the countdowns to see all the hottest videos. Now it's none or partial videos they show; of the SAME videos....So that leads me to the VMAs...how can MTV vote on videos that MTV never show....The first music video that MTV showed back when it first began doesn't make any sense anymore because I listen to my radio more than I watch MTV.

Even when The Real World began it tied into music like Heather the Rapper, Julie the girl who was gonna dance in them rap videos, Kevin the Poet/music writer, Becky the folk singer...Now all the shows don't have anything to do with music...all it is now are superficial stuff like how rich and pretty one can be.
"Video did not kill the radio star"
"I no longer want my MTV"

Boy do I ever agree, I was in elementary school when MTV started and all it showed was music videos, it was the coolest thing ever, now I cannot remember the last time I saw a video on MTV.

It's because they used to be all about music when the station was created. Though since it has grown so much they have come to the realization that there is only so much that they can do with music. So they have spanned out to more than just music. Soon there will be three MTV stations too.

MTV hasn't been about "music" since 1990. I find it weird and slightly ironic that MTV premiered the year that I started high school and "died" the year that I graduated from college. So basically I got to enjoy the golden years of MTV from 13 to 21. MTVstarted sucking just in time for me to grow up and embrace adult responsibility.

I agree. I just don't get it. Mtv used to be significantly relevant to the music industry. Now it is just another cable channel and has little to no impact on music. What a shame.

LOL, you wern't even an egg yet when they showed videos of music....lol

You sound very young, but in the late 80's and early 90's they showed music, they even had headbangers block, that showed just rock, not the hip hop that was overtaking the youth today....

Your question is so bunk, even a mom can answer your crisis.......LOL....

MTV was really cool, when it first came out, showing only videos...But now I agree, it's a bunch of horrible programs now and not worth watching.
