"I tend to close myself in my room alot and I'm not as social as I used to be. "
That is not "mellow." That means something is wrong.
Three things:
1. Yes, it is normal to feel like that when you first start a new medication. Anti-depressents take awhile to get used to. Give it some time. If in a month you still feel this way, go to the doctor and try something else.
2. If your family needs it, then that increases the chances you do. Depression is often hereditary.
3. Dealing with depression is not an exact science, but it IS a science. What works for one person might not work for another, but there are other options. If your parents and boyfriend are concerned, then there is a reason. So just keep your communication with your doctor open and be open-minded. The doctor is the professional, not you (or your family, for that matter).

I had to go on 3 different anti-depressants before I found one that worked for me without side effects. Prozac didn't do anything to me, Zoloft made me a zomby, and Celexa worked well.
Point is, if the pills are causing these side effects, stop taking them and tell your psychiatrist. She will put you on another kind that might work better.
Also, if you don't think you are depressed, you should talk to your psychiatrist about that too. Maybe you are just mellowing out.

Definitely switch medications. I've tried 7 different medications until I found one that gave me temporary side effects. (muscle tightening in the jaw, but it went away in 3 days)
My personal experience with Lexapro is that it cut off my emotions from my actions. I would feel depressed on the inside, but would act like a total fool. I knew I was acting hyper and happy, but on the inside I was dying and trying to stop acting happy. It was weird and creepy...
I'm on Cymbalta now, but you might want to try Wellbutrin or Prozac.

Most people go through a stage of depression during some point in their lives. As far as the medication, Im sorry I have never taken any anti-depresants, but that does not sound normal. I would call your doctor about that.

I've never been on anti depressants, but I'm going to say it's not normal. You don't sound depressed to me, but I'm not a therapist. Instead of ingesting those awful pills try going to see a therapist. I know it wasn't your choice to take those in the first place, but it doesn't seem like you need them. If they are making you sick, then that's reason enough to stop taking them. Good luck with you, best wishes!

For me it was! AHHH! I felt drained and nauseas 24/7 for two whole weeks! I couldn't ride in the car without a puke bag in case I might have a barf-a-rama! And I was a little shaky. And maybe more anxious because I was dealing with my mood disorder, so I thought about it 24/7 also! But, the pros on how it made me feel a couple weeks later were worth it. But damn, those first 14 days were yukky!

I have the same exact problem!! I was recently put on Lexapro and right now I feel dizzy and nauseous(this is my first day). My boyfriend's aunt (who is heavily medicated) told me that the first couple of days will be rocky on a new medication. So always give new meds time to stabilize your system.
