My friend is getting a Administrative Discharge from the Navy. My questions are how is this considered compared to Dishonorable and honorable discharges? Also how long will it take for the paperwork to go threw? They told her 2-6 weeks but I doubt that they will leave her sitting in her A-School barracks for a month and a half. Also I heard from some other people that she could still get her G.I. money for school, what is the story on that. Thanks for any help you can give.

She is getting one for having a lot of panic attacks. She did not do anything wrong and was never punished. As for the G.I. money, well that sucks but I kind of figured it that way.

I was planing to go see her one weekend before this happened. If I go up to see her in a week or so will they allow her to leave then? Since they dont have to pay for her to fly or ride back I was thinking that she could ask her C/O and just leave when I get up there. Will that work?

From what you described, she is getting a General Discharge, under honorable conditions, for having a disqualifying medical condition prior to her entry. The process involves a report of a medical board and, asssuming she agrees with that medical board's findings and recommended disposition, she is ready to be discharged.
If she has served less than one year on active duty, I don't think she is eligible for any schooling benefits under the Montgomery G.I. Bill.

OK - An administrative discharge is nothing more than discharging a military member before their commitment is up. These discharges are catagoized as Honorable, under honorable conditions, general, dishonorable. Chances are, your friends will be catagozed as honorable.

A admin discharge can be bad depending on if it is a honorable, general, or dishonorable. plus there is a time factor if your friend is still in basic training it is no big deal but no G.I. Bill. if she has been assigned to a unit she might get the money but only if it is honorable. it is a big deal getting kicked out after 180 days of service

Bad.

And they will take as long as they need to. 6 weeks is conservative in most cases. She will be used as free labor to clean the head, wax the floors, paint, clean, clean, clean, clean whatever else needs to be done while she waits so it isn't like she will be bored during her day.

And if your friend is in "A" school she doesn't get ANY money for her GI Bill because she never paid for her GI Bill. The GI Bill requires 12 months of $100 payments. She WILL lose any money she has put into it, but that is part of getting kicked out of the Navy.

It's not a "bad" discharge. It's for medical reasons. They are giving her an admin separation because she's been for less than six months.

It's not as bad as an OTH or conviction at court marshal. I retired as a Chief Petty Officer. I had one drunk, an old E-6, working for me who failed Level 3 rehab. I had him out in a week. I walked the paperwork through myself. Your Senior Chief might be faster than me. Good luck working for your father.

Administrative is just that. It is not considered disciplinary dismissal. If she has been in long enough, and paid in to the GI bill, she will rate it.
