And the house was built in 1922 but it looks very solid. Much more solid even than most new brick houses made today. Is this house probably outdated and I shouldn't mess with it or does the material last much longer?

Stucco is a form of concrete, but the construction is totally different from a true concrete house. A stucco house is built with conventional wood framing and sheathing, with a layer of tarpaper, followed by a layer of chickenwire which will hold the stucco mixture in place. Stucco is good at hiding rot or termite damage in the underlying frame, so a careful pre-purchase inspection is essential. Absent such damage, it could be a good buy. But for a house built in 1922, the mechanical systems will require careful scrutiny; the most likely deficient system will be electrical, with the house having a 60 amp fuse panel: today, 200 amp breaker panels are considered the minimum. Heat, plumbing, and roof will also require careful examination.

No, stucco is a type of plaster. you attach metal screen (like chicken wire) to the existing siding with spacer nails, then apply the stucco, let dry and paint. If your house was built in the 1920's it wasn't originally stucco, it was either brick, or more than likely wood construction. I'd be more concerned about the sub standard wireing, the lead paint/lead pipes and asbestos insulation.

Stucco is a material for siding, the house is not made of stucco, stucco is like an outdoor plaster that is put over wood and painted. if the house was made of stucco it would last about 2 weeks...lol

Stucco is a very popular plaster type of siding. We are presently building a new home with stucco siding. It's one of my favorites. You see more of this style in California and Florida. warmer states. It's a very elegant look.

No.

Stucco is a hard mud plaster put over the outside of the home. Modern stucco is styrofoam and cement, but it is thin, like siding.

It all depend on what material was used to build the house back then, and how well the house was maintained.
