My boyfriend and I have been dating for a few years and we are getting married next year--but we are living in different cities this year for work-related reasons

Keep the lines of communication open. My girlfriend of 14 months and I have managed our long-distance relationship very well. When I am not deployed (on disaster operations), we are 4 driving hours away from each other. However, my work often takes me double that distance. However, we talk on the phone every night, even if only for 30 minutes or an hour. We also e-mail each other and instant message.

I also try to see her as much as feasible. Even if I only spend a weekend with her once every month or so, we treasure the time and make the most of it. Also, I will drop by unexpected to surprise her with additional time together. About a week-and-a-half ago, I drove 7 hours one evening and surprised her at her parents' house (everyone but her knew I was coming). She was speechless when she came to the front door, and she couldn't stop smiling all weekend.

Y'all will make it through this difficulty and will become stronger because it. Keep communicating and keep each others' spirits up. Best of luck to both of you.

You've been with him for a long time so just trust in each other and be secure enough to know that he loves you and vice versa. Its going to be a struggle but if you keep at it, the two of you can make it work.

Electronics. Cell phone to cell phone (get on the same network), texting, e-mails, voice mails, and video conference if you can.
