Not knowing where you are coming from I did a search for Greyhound from Baltimore to New Orleans and it was about $235

I did a search on travelocity for planes from BWI to ORD and United had a direct flight for $93 on the random dates I picked in August.

Baltimore, MD (BWI) to Chicago, IL (ORD)
Departing Tue, Aug 14
Returning Mon, Aug 20

$93 FLIGHT (DIRECT ROUNDTRIP) FLY BABY FLY!

(obviously pricing changes depending on dates.)

You can usually get good rates on direct flights out of DC. Although I would say the cheepest is the greyhound bus line.
