It means power. The most powerful countries have nuclear capabilities. Why does North Korea want nuclear power? So they can be considered on of the big boys.

Once a weapon is created that is of superior force -- it remains in play until the next "best" arrives !! This is the story OF mankind !! And, with the numbers of nuclear capable countries in the mix on the rise -- one never knows when someone like the little "ill" jackass in North Korea is going to have a bad day and decide to make a run at ending the whole show for everyone !!
As long as there is the absolute slightest chance that there are those who would proport to USE such weapons against US -- we would be fools in capital letters to lay our's away !!!

Same as always. As long as we have nukes rational enemies will not dare use them on us. If irrational enemies use them on us we have more.
Nuclear weapons are weapons of peace. Dont believe me well guess what it was not singing Kumbyah that kept the Soviets from sending wave after wave of tanks through the Fulda Gap during the Cold War.

The word is DETERRENCE! As long as the Terrorista's and other psychopathic types know that if they mess with us bad enough and get caught, the HAWKS will Nuke them back into the Stone Age, any of them with half a brain will think more than once about pulling another obscenity like 9/11 again!

intimidation the reason to have is to intimidate and never use. some times the perception of power is more powerful, that is why the cold war went on for so long with out a shot fired. and the ability to blow the living crap out of someone if they attack us in turn making them afraid to attack us.

To quote the old Strategic Air Command (SAC) motto: "Peace Is Our Profession." Nukes will deter any aggressor if Congress lets our Military handle it.

We maybe left the caves 10,000 years ago, but our heads are still stuck with the picture of the big gorilla pounding his chest in intimidation. Nukes say, you are the biggest silver back with the biggest chest (not much brain needed for it).
