If you leave them outside they might run off and explore, but they usually come back after a while. It's just really dangerous for them to be off a lead and lose.

Not if they know what's good for them they won't LOL.
Some dogs will run off from their owners, if the can get out,
or aren't on a leash/lead when their owners leave a back
gate open when they are in the backyard. There are laws in
every town prohibiting that dogs can be out on a public
street without being on a leash/lead. So make sure you have
collars or halters, with leads when you take them for a walk.
And if you merely have them penned up in a yard, make sure
the gate and fencing are secured.
Even when they know where their food and water is, they
often will want to take off and explore the neighborhood
smells. So that's why it's important to take them for walks to
explore a little when given the opportunity for more exercise.

yes your dogs do run away from home but they continually return home
