I'd like to try and recreate a "Cream Cheese Wonton" recipe from a chinese restaurant chain called Pick Up Stix.
I've tried to locate wonton wrappers at my nearest grocery store (Safeway), but haven't found them. Do any supermarket chains carry these? Or do I need to go to a specialty foods store or an asian market? I'm in Sacramento, California, so if anyone has any advice, please let me know.
Also, does anyone have a good recipe for cream cheese wontons (a seafood-free version)? The only ingredients that I know are in the Pick Up Stix ones are wonton wrappers, cream cheese, and minced water chestnuts.
Thanks in advance to all the replies :)

As far as finding the wrappers, most larger chain grocery stores carry them these days. As others have said, look in the produce section. Sometimes they can be hard to find and their location is not exactly intuitive. You may have to ask, but they probably have them.
There probably no other ingredients other than those that you listed. Wontons are often very simple in terms of ingredients. If you want to mix it up a bit, try adding a little ground sausage (I use Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage) mixed with cream cheese or Chopped Spinach mixed with cream cheese as a filler.
Whatever you use, make sure that your ingredients are fully cooked before making the wontons. Simply add a teaspoon or so of the filling (for small wrappers) and seal the edges (I use butter, some use egg or eve water).
Use a little sweet and sour or soy sauce for dipping.
Good stuff.

How funny, my kids love those! Just had them the other day, they are good! I have seen wonton skins everywhere: albertsons, safeway....they are widely & easily available. Try an Asian market or speciality grocery store. Apparently this is it! Ingredients: ***Filling:*** 4 ounces cream cheese (room temperature) 1 egg yolk 1/2 can of water chestnuts, drained and minced finely chopped green onions salt & pepper to taste wonton skins Directions: Mash cream cheese in a bowl with fork until smooth. Add the egg yolk, salt, pepper, water chestnuts and green onions; mix until completely lump-free; set aside. If time allows, refrigerate for 2 hours for easier handling. Using store-bought wonton wrappers or your own, place a teaspoon of cream cheese mixture on a wrapper. Gather up the edges; pinch to enclose. Set on cookie sheet; repeat with remainder. Heat 4 to 5 cups oil in wok or skillet to 350 degrees; fry 5 or 6 wontons at a time for 3 to 4 seconds or until light golden brown. They will puff up, so don't fry too many at once. Remove and drain on wire rack or paper toweling. Serve with warm dipping sauce.

In California, I would think you don't have any shortage of Asian grocery stores. For certain they will have wonton wrappers, and the prices are usually lower to boot.
Even at the Asian grocery stores in my area (Upstate New York) they have all kinds of unique and interesting things to look at besides the out-of-this-world frozen vegetable dumplings I buy there. You should go if only for the experience.

I don't know where you can get the wrappers in Sacramento but in my area, all the grocery stores have them in the fruit and vegetable isle.I have made them with just cream cheese and very finely minced onion.
Try Albertsons or Trader Joe's for the wrappers

For sure you can buy them at an Asian grocery store, but I have also seen them at the Wal-Mart grocery stores too. Some Chinese resaturants also sell them, so you can call around to find out, but it will cost you more to do that.

Look for them in the vegetable department next to the containers of tofu. Any well-stocked supermarket should have them.
