Switch the lightbulbs in your house to CFL (compact flourescent), or LED bulbs. Make sure there are no air leaks around windows and doors. And finally, turn off things when they are not being used.

-Do not turn lights on un-necessarily.

If you use a fan for cooling, pay attention to airflow patterns. Put a box fan in a window on one side of the house, and make sure that there is an "exhaust" opening on the other side, or the fan will have virtually no effect. This may provide sufficient cooling, depending on climate, that you do not need to run an air conditioner, which uses A LOT more energy.

Pay attention to the direction the breeze blows, if any, and have the fan working with it, not against it.

Try the new low usage light bulbs. We have put them throughout our house 3 months ago and have seen about a 10 pct drop in elec bill.

I understand they will pay for themselves in about 4 months and life a life span of 7-10 years.
Turn off the lights.Leave Air Cond set at 78, and shut down those electrical items not used.,

Don't use anything that uses electricity. If you do, use them sparingly.

No A/C, no tv/radio/computer, no refrigerator - you get the idea. Wash all your clothes by hand and hang them outside to dry. Get a gas water heater and furnace. Use candles for light at night.
