Typical Go-carts have SOLID hard Tires and they are slicks
(no tread) this is very bad for off-road especially grass

You Want tires with a knobby tread (like a tractor)(or off road bike/motorcycle)
It helps to have a small amount of water in the tires and underinflated by 2-3 lbs
The water helps prevent air leakage from the underinflation
and adds a tad bit of weight to the tire makes it more stable

Also dirt/offroad use of go-cart should be at a lower speed
So change the sprocket on the jack shaft to a lower ratio
You wont go as fast at top end by the go-cart will have alot
more power able to muscle its way out of STUCK situations
with ruts and bumps in the terrain

They run very good on about any non paved areas. And are fun to ride "off road". Make sure it has a sturdy roll bar-wider tires. And buy him a good helmet of course. Equipping with a red flag not a bad idea either.

They can work on either. In fact people will complain nowadays if you drive them on pavement/ streets.
