Even though black does a great job keeping out the light. The heat will absorb into most materials. So it all depends on what the curtain material is made.

Yes, unless there is a light colored lining, shade or blinds between the curtains and the glass. Black is the most heat-absorbent "color" of all. It is black because it absorbs all the light and reflects none. White reflects all colors of light. Facing east, it would absorb the morning heat/light, which is usually not as intense as west facing. Black will also fade fairly quickly if exposed to direct sunlight. If this is a decorating decision, put up a shade or line the curtains with an old white sheet or something. That will also make your curtains more "light proof," for a darker, cooler room.

It depends it the sun shines on that particular window a lot during the day. Black absorbs heat, as I'm sure you already know, so it would definetly add more heat into the room. Then again it also depends on what type of windows you have. Some windows reflect more light. There's a lot of variables to take into account.

Actually no black curtains do not make a room hotter. Black curtains make the room look darker and when you go to turn on the light you think that it i so bright in the room.

Black does not reflect the sun and heat like brighter colors, so it does tend to be hotter. It may make the room a little bit warmer, but I doubt it would be to the point of being uncomfortable. I would equate it to lighting a few candles....it would raise the temp, but not significantly.

Not really but the West sun is usually the harsh es. You could however use a liner.
Because it will fade severely.
Dark absorbs light and light colors such as white or even silver reflect.
Black should actually should keep your room cooler.

Its a long time away, during my elementry school days. It was explain how black color in fact dark colors absorb heat. Even to the extent of the cloths we wear. The temperature we feel depends on the color we wore on. I dont know if this too can be prooven scientifically, our belief counts so much in what happens around us. What we belief is what happens.
