Too much t.v. or too much conversation about things a 6-year old probably doesn't even understand. As her mother, monitor this situation and talk to her. Calling boys should not be on her mind. I was not able to make that kind of all until I was 17 years old! Your fiance' is right ! A girl should not be calling boys on the phone. If I were the boy's mother, I would surely wonder who her parents were to allow this.....but then, I'm old fashioned and I am sure the 'new' world order would say it's ok. Mine never did - and she still has not - and she is 21.

I spent a lot of time in my daughters class this past school year, and the little girls started doing the phone number exchange. The boys were feeling left out, and started asking if they could exchange phone numbers too. So it wasn't long before the whole class had one anothers phone numbers. A couple of the girls called and my daughter tried to call one of the boys once. When he wasn't home, she gave up and hasn't asked again. It is mostly just a thing that kids see other kids doing at this age, and think that it is a way to be more "grown up" but when they do talk, they don't know what to talk about and they give it up pretty soon. I would suggest you let your daughter call, and like the others say, monitor the conversation. If it starts sounding strange, you just redirect the topic, or have her say goodbye. If you are concerned about the other parents, talk to them as well. But in any case, I am fairly sure she will get over it pretty quickly.

You need to call the number first. Chat with the boys parents and get to know them. At the age of six, it is not a love relationship, so I would have no problem with them chatting on the phone. But you have to call and OK it with the boys parents. Children of all ages and sex call each other on the phone. Sure if it wasn't a girl you wouldn't think twice about it.
I have four boys. They are 12 10 8 and 5 The three older ones call friends and friends call then. Some friends are girls.
We include both girls and boys in our birthday parties as well.

My best friend at age six was a boy named Gregory. They are probably just friends... nothing else to it. If she starts to try to act more 'grown-up' and talk about dating than have a chat with her about how dating is for when she is older, but for now boys are only friends.

Cal the number yourself and talk to the parents about your daughter having the number. Maybe invite him over for an afternoon play date or something. If you want, you can arrange the play date ahead of time with the boys parents (without telling your daughter) then have her call to officially invite him so she can call him herself. Don't treat this situation differently then you would her other friends because she will pick up on that and realize maybe she *should* act differently around him too(i.e boy/girl friends).

I also used to be a camp counselor and I had two boy/girl pairs that were best buddies. One set would play together outside of camp. In the other set the Boy's parents thought it was very wrong and he came to camp *extremely* upset because he really did not understand why. They actually yelled at him one day, in front of everyone, when they came to pick him and saw him and little girl drawing with sidewalk chalk together. Be careful not to project too much adult perception onto this situation and confuse her. Keep it all innocent and let the kids be friends.

For crying out loud, she's 6. Let her call. Don't make it out to be something it's not. So she met a boy that she wants to be friends with, it's really no big deal. Maybe call the mother first and talk to her. My 5 year old made a "boy" friend from dance class and they wanted to exchange numbers to talk about "Webkins". I thought it was great that she made a new friend that she'll probably see when she heads off to kindergarten this year.

I would sit down my daughter and ask her what exactly she wants to talk about, how does she know him, how old is he and has she talked to him in school and if so what is the reason to call once she is home.
Then proceed from there. I would also ask the teacher at school who this kid was and get a background feel about the situation. Kids are very sensitive to how we react to a situation and if we make even one ounce big deal than it is, then next time it will unnecessarily escalate.
And she doesnt need to be alone if/when she makes the call so just take it easy.
There is also a chance that the boy doesnt want her to call and same goes with the parents of the boy so be cool about it. Good luck.

She's 6. Not 16. So they are just friends. I mean seriously, how many guys were YOU sexually attracted to at 6 years old. I had many guy friends when I was younger, and it was completely harmless. And your fiance doesnt really have any say in the matter if he isnt the father. You should be the one calling the shots in your child's life. The only person to have any say in it is the father.

I would not be overly concerned. She is only 6 and i assume he is too. If i were you though i would call the number and see if it is the boys number and talk to his parents. Find out what kind of people they are etc. Who knows maybe you can become friends. Find out if they supervise play dates etc. If so then invite him over for one or let her go there for one. Your fiance is just being a protective parent, i can see my husband doing the same thing initially once our daughter is born, but in reality there is not much they can do.
When i was in kindergarten i had a "boyfriend", he came over for dinner once in a while and we played etc. nothing bad happened. It will be okay just monitor the call. Listen in if you feel more comfortable.

She probably has no intentions of having a boyfriend or whatever, she just wants a friend and is too embarrassed to talk to him at school because he is a boy and she'll get teased about it. Call the boy's parents and ask if your daughter can talk to their son for a few minutes on the phone, if they ask why, just say she wants to talk to her friend.

I got a girl's phone number when I was 6 and nothing happened between us. The calls were harmless. See if the boy's parents think it's alright and if it is then let your daughter call him.
