They're small little bruises, and I'm assuming they've come from falling outside (or inside as we have hardwood throughout) or from playing rough with her 4-year-old sister, as they have a tendency to do.

Do you think people will recognize that they're from the trials of childhood or do you think assume she's abused?

Any one with kids would know that those bruises are just from falling down. What toddler doesnt have bruises on their legs.

At 15 months my youngest feel and hit the corner of a table at church and sported the nastiest black/blue/purple/green eye I have ever seen. It was so bad that you could tell people's eyes would water at seeing it. She carried that bad boy for almost 2 months and nobody thought she had been beat although stranger did often comment on it such as poor baby or sweetie your eye.. and then they would ask what happened but never once did I feel people were looking at me. Kids bruise and kids fall, kids get hurt. That is just life. People know this. Don't worry so much.

My 22 month old, has bruises all over her legs, elbows, and cuts on her knees as she tries to run faster than her legs take her. She has had bruises on her face too. I know they are because she is active, not because I abuse her, so I am at peace and wouldn't even care about what others think.

From the time a child takes his/her first step until they are 2-3 they will most likely have bruising on their shins. It is a fact of life.

Child abuse teams are pretty astute at recognizing what is normal and abnormal bruising. You have little to worry about.

I am sure most people would assume they are from just being a kid. My daughter is like that too, she is very active and bruises easily.

They will know it from kiddie play or that she is learning to walk - my son was the same bruises on his arms, legs and belly (!) from bumping into things and rolling on things and I used to worry the health visitor would think I was knocking him about and social services would be knocking on my door ! its normal and people know it !
