I have bad anxiety so I have been put on Zoloft. I have began to notice I am not my usual self and people around me are able to tell. I feel drowsy which has me in a not so peppy mood.

Give it at least 7 days to get enough in your body to make a difference. One dose shouldn't do that to you- Unless it is to high of a dose. Also if it is relaxing you too much you might want to take it at bedtime. It can help some people sleep including me. Hope this helps.

Zoloft works by gradually adjusting brain chemistry. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and works by keeping serotonin in the neuronal synapse for a longer period of time. This is thought to work by creating a larger opportunity for serotonin to bind to the receptors on the post synapse. Long story short, the brain will eventually adjust to having a higher level of serotonin available and will change the brain chemistry accordingly. This may take several weeks or a few days, each person reacts differently. However some side effects never go away and the tiredness may be persistent during the entire duration of treatment, it's just one of those things you have to deal with.

According to Davis's Drug Guide, Zoloft (sertraline) can take 2 - 4 weeks before results can be detected. However, your own belief in how the medicine will affect you can cause a change in your behavior. Alcohol and other drugs or supplements you take can also interact with the medication causing increased side effects. For more information about the drug go to the following web site. If it goes away, then the drug will not be doing its job.

If you want to cure your anxiety without drugs, you'll have to work at it. Take a deep breath or something. It's not beyond your control.
