I just read that Trazodone is an anti-depressant... & I'm already on Prozac. Will that be a conflict?

I was prescribed this because my hubby's insurance would not approve Ambien CR until I tried other "sedative" agents. (What they don't get is I've been on Ambien CR for some time, but was through MY insurance, which is now expired.)
The pharmacy called the "doctor" (actually a CNP) & told her that there were only 2 alternatives the insurance would accept... but she doesn't seem to get it. She wants me to try this "Trazodone".

I'm asking about the conflicts, because I've never been on this and I don't seem to be getting a straight answer from anyone!
So, please help! If you want more info, please send me a message. Thanks, Lady Harley! :o)

FYI:
I have NOT started taking Trazodone... & I doubt I'll even waist my money on it.. because I talked to the insurance company.... they said this will NOT be considered as alternative to Ambien CR.
I am finally getting good results with Prozac, so I am not about to change!
I guess I'll just have to make that clear to the CNP when I go back for my follow up on Tuesday!
The insurance company wants me to do a "step therapy" before they'll agree to pay for Ambien CR.
I have "conceded" that I will have to try one of their suggestions... just so that I can get back to Ambien CR.
Who knows, maybe one of them may actually work as good as Ambien CR!
I just hope that when it does not, they don't fight me anymore!
I have concluded, more than likely, I'll have to be on some type of sleep medicine for the rest of my life... or until I get REALLY OLD!! So, I hope this insurance company doesn't fight that either!!

PLS NOTE!! I have taken regular Ambien before! It does not help.... CR gets me asleep & KEEPS me asleep!
I have a follow up with the Dr on Tues. I'll add more, if needed then.
In the mean time, I'm keeping this open in case anyone else has any opinions to my problem. (or if the others want to update their answer.) Thanks, LH! :o)

Check Interactions1 potential interaction was found for the drugs you selected.
You searched for interactions between the following drugs:

(Note: Not all drug interactions are known or reported in the literature, and new drug interactions are continually being reported. This information is provided only for your education and for you to discuss with your personal healthcare provider. )

FLUOXETINE (in Prozac) may interact with TRAZODONE

Both fluoxetine and trazodone have an effect on serotonin, a chemical that is found in the brain. Excess levels of serotonin in the brain may cause serious or potentially life-threatening side effects. Early signs of this problem include increased confusion and restlessness. Other possible symptoms may include weakness, fever, nausea, and anxiety. In rare cases, high levels of serotonin in the brain may cause severe complications like seizures, stroke, and even death. If fluoxetine and trazodone are used together, it may be best to start with very low doses of each drug under the careful supervision of your doctor. Ask your healthcare provider about these drugs and this potential interaction as soon as possible.

This interaction is poorly documented and is considered major in severity.

I just went to drug interactions under google, and found this for you! I figured if you can go to the trouble in all your answers, so can I.

Hope it helps! =)

My SO tried Seroquel and did not sleep through the night for 8 months after weaning off of it. It's a nasty drug. It's an antipsychotic, and shouldn't be prescribed just for sleep problems. There are PLENTY of much safer sleep aids which can be prescribed. Trazodone is a tricyclic antidepressant. I don't see how that would directly help with sleep though.

You should try generic Ambien first. In truth, Ambien CR works no better than regular Ambien. The reason for Ambien CR was because Ambien went generic. Ambien works by helping you fall asleep; it doesn't help you stay asleep.
