You're not a bad person because you don't believe a bunch of unsubstantiated superstitions. What you are is a thinking person and 100% sane.
I've been an atheist for 51 years and my advice would be to go slowly at first. It's not easy being an atheist in an overwhelmingly religious world. Don't go around advertising your conversion to reason and logic. Take your time. Read some atheist literature. Think about the consequences of your decision. Are you prepared to spent your life knowing that 85% of Americans will hate your guts and would happily beat the crap out of you if they only knew who you are? Young people, especially girls, need to identify with a group of peers. If you were my daughter, I would strongly advise (literally beg) you to keep your atheism a strict secret until you've graduated from high school and have college age friends. By then you'll be much more certain about such an important decision and, hopefully, you'll have a more sophisticated circle of friends who understand that each person has a right to their own beliefs.
Good Luck...................

No, It think the other athiest who have said negative things about certain religions on this answer have bad attitudes.
I am a christian and it doesn't matter what you believe that makes you good or bad. It's what you believe that brings you to God in the end or the "down" side.
I would reconsider. Try Jesus. I guarantee He will show you he is real.

The word atheist is taken far too lightly. I would argue that you are, in fact, not an atheist. You are quite possibly and probably an agnostic meaning that you very much doubt the existence of God but are aware that no proof has been provided from either side.
Atheism is a doctrine or a belief just as is theism requiring faith in order to believe. When one declares him/herself atheistic he/she is stating that they have come to a conclusion without the assurance of resolute evidence. There are those who might argue that there is substantial evidence to backup the theory of atheism... which may be true... but it is just that... a theory... not a proven fact.
I would reconsider your position and perhaps choose to be known as agnostic as this doesn't contradict your denouncement of those who believe in something that cannot be proven... because atheism is just such thing.

Torturing pets or stealing from seniors makes you a bad person. Exploiting the poor or weak makes you a bad person. Not believing in a sadistic deity has nothing to do with any of the reasons you might be a bad person. Just try to be a good person by your own initiative and you'll be fine.

It will hopefully pass. My Dad was a minister and he was always fine with me being an agnostic of course unlike lots of thiests he focused on the love part of his christianity and left the judging to others. I think he respected the fact I could argue my point with facts as to why I believed as I do.

No, it doesn't make you a bad person. However, just make sure that you continue to read and learn. Don't close yourself off just because you've decided you don't believe in God. Too many people make that mistake, from ALL ends of the religious spectrum.

You are good or bad because you do good or bad things. Believing something is not an action. If you have the desire to be good, and you know what is good, then you can be good. It's as simple as that. If you live a good life, what should it matter what you believe?

Of course not. You just have a different view of the world. Parents never like it when their kids have a different opinion. You'll just have to let him be unhappy about it. Just remember to keep an open mind, even though you feel you have figured out your spirituality.

Presumably he raised you to value honesty.
Would he rather that you lie to him, and claim to follow a belief system which you do not believe in, just to please him?
Let him know that your profession of atheism isn't some kind of rebellion against him, but instead a mark of trust in the values he instilled in you, and he may be forced to re-examine his own position.

of course not. it is an intelligent choice based on lack of evidence rather than a blind faith.
dont let your dad tell you what to believe.
you can be a good person without believing in god, actually possibly better because you don't do things because you are afraid that "god" will punish you, but because you want to be a better person. xx
