Physical damage, possibly. Psychological damage, definitely. My guess is that your friend was similarly treated as a child. At any rate, discuss with her alternate methods of correction and ways she can improve her parenting skills. If you feel your friend is physically injuring the child, you have little choice but to report her to Children's Protective Agency. It's better to lose a friend than to have a dead or maimed child on your conscience.

MOST DEFINITELY! I actually know a woman whose father smacked her on the head repeatedly and when she was about 8 years old she lost her hearing. She became def because of her father hitting her close to the ear. It caused severe nerve problems in her face and broke the small bones in her ears. She needs to take an anger managment and parenting class. Children can be very frustrating, believe me, I have an overactive 4 year old, but smacking of any kind is not the answer. if anything it will cause resentment from the child and more behavioral problems later on.

Smacking your child upside the head is completely inappropriate! Especially at such a young age. Their brain is still developing, and to smack them like that is just as effective as shaking a baby, which can lead to severe brain damage! Tell her to stop, and if she doesn't them you should set your friendship aside and do what is best for the child and call Child Protective Services and file a report. They will investigate and do what they fill is best for the child.

Tell her that she should never smack her child on the head. You don't need to hit a child but if she 'must ' then spank her on her bottom Hitting a child in the head is CHILD ABUSE

Tell her this, tell her yo do not want this to affect your friendship but she needs to know that she can lose her daughter for doing that to her.

Uhhh Yeah! She can do damage- emotionally, mentally, and physically. It's called ABUSE!
You're friend needs help. No child, nor adult for that matter should be smacked upside the head for any reason what-so-ever! It's Abuse.

smacking on the head is never right. you should report your friend or interfere when she does it. This is ABUSE. There is no need to punish a little 3year old girl when she "misbehaves"...What can a 3year old do so bad that she gets such a punishment????
SPEAK UP FOR THAT CHILD!

suggest a parenting class and soon! do it in a loving way so you don't lose the friendship. But a three year old doesn't understand that and even if it's not hard enough to do damage physically, she's scarring her emotionally and that is also abuse! Hope you can talk to your friend!

it depends how hard that she hits her. BTW: tell her to watch out because someone might call child abuse on her. I personally don't agree with the head smacking but just tell her to watch out.
