There is a line if thinking right now to try and get kids potty trained as youngs as 12 months. However, I think this is a minority point of view. I would not listen to people telling you to try to get a 14 month old potty trained unless you have reason to believe they are ready.

The advice I have always heard is that trying to make kids use the potty before they are ready never really works very well. If the child is showing signs, then you work with them to make it happens. The signs...
- Telling you they are about to or have pooped
- Awareness that they are pooping, such as stopping what they are doing (standing still) while they do it
- Interest about the potty, asking about using the potty, or talking about other children using the potty
- Willingness to sit for a time on the potty

Hey if you get a good answers let me know. My son is 2 and we are having a difficult time. He sits on the potty, but holds it until we put the pamper back on. And we usually sit for about 1 hr.

i don't know why people push such a rush on potty training, she has how long until preschool or head start or kindergarten.i believe she'll know when she is ready if the potty chair is available, and may be a doll is placed there to show her that a little person could fit on it.

My son started going to the potty at age 1, which was funny because my mother in law showed him while on vacations (with the plastic potty in front of the tv, we would all make pushing sounds).
We came back from vacations, at day care… he was to little for the teachers in his class to take him potty (he would go, but he wound ask for it).
After almost 1 yr in diapers again, the only thing that worked was telling him that “balu-lu” would take a bight from his dirty diaper (imaginary monster) but if he goes to the toilette, he wouldn’t have a dirty diaper for “balu-lu” to come.
We got him the sesame street cover.

It worked for us

well, with my 2 oldest boys i did about anything you can imagine. NOTHING I DID WORKED......they would go once in a while all on their own and one day out of the blue it clicked and they were going potty all on their own......they are not going to go until THEY are ready....

does she exhibit signs of being ready? longer periods with a dry diaper, waking up dry in the morning or showing interest at all in the matter?

maybe give her a little more time. i have always heard it's easier to potty train girls but i have no experience with them i particular.....i have all boys

good luck
