A tourniquet can be defined as a constricting or compressing device used to control venous and arterial circulation to an extremity for a period of time. Pressure is applied circumferentially upon the skin and underlying tissues of a limb; this pressure is transferred to the walls of vessels, causing them to become temporarily occluded.[1]
* Surgical tourniquets enable surgeons to work in a bloodless operative field
* Emergency tourniquets are used in Emergency bleeding control to prevent severe blood loss from limb trauma

A Tourniquet is used as a last resort in a injury were there is a lot of bleeding. You wrap something such as a rope or a belt above the injury and tighten in order to stop the bleeding. Must be loosen once and awhile our the individual will loose the limb below the Tourniquet.

A tourniquet is anything (usually rubber) tied around an arm or leg to stop the flow of blood. It is often used by people when they are taking IV drugs. I love the song.

A tourniquet is bandage that is drawn tightly around an injury in order to slow or prevent blood loss. So when you're really bleeding like that it's God that would be stopping it..
One of my favorite songs :)

I was under the impression that a tourniquet was something you tied round your limb (?) to stop the blood flow, in the event of a deep cut.
Perhaps I am confused...

That term is used in the medical field. It means to cut off the blood supply to a certain area of the body. So the song may be saying Lord I feel cut off from you return my salvation.

A turnaquet is a device for tightening, you often see rockers use a microphone lead around their arm so to make the vains pop.
You can use it to stop blood if a limb is bleeding badly.
Tie a piece of string to both ends of a stick, slip your arm into it and turn the stick, you get the gist anyway.

A cloth used to bind a limb above a bad cut to prevent blood loss. Go to the Red Cross page and read up on first aid.
As the song is about suicide, she is referring to god as able to stop her bleeding and restore life to her. Depressing album but great songs.
