I have it set that way with Opera browser

IE7 is a bit different than Opera, you can't set it to open a new tab automatically when typing an address in the search bar. However, you can have it open a new tab, or new window, by right clicking on any link on any web page, then clicking "Open in new tab", or "open in new window". You can use Alt+Enter instead of just Enter to open a new tab after entering your search terms or an URL too.

When wishing to browse to a completely different website, you must first open a new tab, then put in the URL or your search terms. When opening a link in Favorites, you can do the right click and select how you wish to open the tab but not a new window, or you can click with your mouse button to open in a new tab.

I am unsure why IE7 was not programmed with a feature to automatically open a new tab each time you perform a search or enter a URL in the search and address boxes. However, it is a very simple thing to click to open a new tab, or use your mouse wheel or right click to do this. I am not overly concerned, but then I only use IE7 and so am not use to having such a feature. I am sure when a person is use to certain features it would be nice to have those you like the most in other similar applications, which would make the transition much easier from one to the other. However, this would then cause a situation in which individuals would only need one browser, huh? lol The reason we have multiple choices is due to the different features they offer.

Have a very nice day.

p.s. I don't think these other respondants actually looked into the Internet Options for tabbed browsing, as there isn't such a setting there.

Currently, as far as I can can tell, IE7 doesn't support this feature, at least automatically. You can manually tell IE7 to open a website/link in a new tab by right clicking the link and selecting it.

IE does not have all the features of many other browsers out there due to the fact IE is Microsoft's OEM browser software. If you have ever used Linux and had the KDE desktop, you'll get the idea when you see how the Konqueror Browser compares to IE. Fast, reliable, easy to use, but not a lot of features as it's built only to "get you surfing". IE sadly still falls into this same bucket and even though it has gotten a few additional extras to keep pace with Mozilla/FireFox and Opera... it's still playing catch up.

Mozilla/FireFox and Opera are the only major browsers support this In the Tab Browsing Options at this time, automatically.

possibly no longer as versatile as what you're searching for, yet you may set your "domicile" website to be distinctive tabs - this might open up a team of tabs whenever you commence the browser or click the domicile button on your toolbar. bypass to IE kit, cyber web ideas, then the popular Tab. turning out to be distinctive domicile pages is so straight forward as hitting the enter key to bypass down a line, one URL according to line. cyber web Explorer will open all your domicile pages once you commence cyber web Explorer, or once you click on the domicile button on the toolbar.

When you type in a new URL, press Alt-Enter instead of just Enter.

TOOL->INTERNET OPTION->GENERAL (tab)

Click SETTINGS button under TABS group.

You have a lot of options to set for the TABS.
