When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved"
I'm whispering "I get lost!"
"That is why I chose this way."

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need someone to be my guide.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
and pray for strength to carry on.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
my flaws are too visible
but God believes I'm worth it.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek His name.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority.
I only know I'm loved.

Hi i emmans...... just wanted to say ,,,,, just a poem. when a CHRISTIAN says HE IS CHRISTIAN.. meaning followers of MY LORD AND GOD JESUS CHRIST... means , boldness ready in mind and soul , for what ever comes our way ,if we are spit on beaten or shut at so be it We do it for GOD'S sake knowing that we have Eternal Life. JESUS says you will be rejected for my sake..... so to answer , I AM PROUD TO BE A CHRISTIAN JESUS IS MY LORD AND GOD I AM PROUD TO PROFESS HIS WORDS ,HE GIVES US AUTHORITY TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT HIM ,I FEEL NO STING OF PAIN HE TOOK IT FOR ME..... because of who I was before, the scum of the earth an evil person... I was dead to sin ....Now I have Eternal Life and I shout with Praise and Joy and tell everyone I meet of my success, I want everyone to know HIS great Love for us HE is the source of ourselves being , MY LORD AND MY GOD... JESUS CHRIST.. yoli peace and joy.

this part of the poem is completely wrong.... Christians do have authority over the negative powers, they can stand tall in the blood of Christ and cast down every principality that does not obey God's Word and Will.
justice is integral, we will all be judged, and are called to judge ourselves, introspect , everyday of our lives.'cause following Jesus is a decision we make everyday, and its a tough journey if we walk without self-discipline and if we forget that God loves us ,and honours our efforts to follow Him....

This is the most touching, beautiful, and honest poem I think I have ever read. Thank you for giving me one more thing to share with friends when they do not understand. I hope you don't mind if I share it. I live in an apartment, everyone dresses up their doors, everyone, except a few, are very old. If you do not want me to put it on the outside of my door tell me. If I do not hear from you I will take that as permission.
Blessed Be, and thank you for sharing.

I think for the most part I have never made myself out to be better. I do quote God's word and some may call that judging but I only refer to God's word, and thats not judging. I do love that poem because many think we are perfect and we are not. We fail and come short of God's glory alot. I can't remember every question I have ever answered, so go look and you tell me. If I have ever belittled anyone I am sorry.

This is a very good poem! If every Christian remembered that they are striving to do what Christ taught, instead of playing God all the time, they would be much better!

The poem conveys a feeling of a conrade that fools you. And tries usurping your writing prowess. A retort by way of a fool you refuse to have confidence stole your sword. To stab you interior the back.a genuine Knight takes no umbrage. Your poem speaks of one between you.A poltroon. This line led to me to be triumph over with anger and pity. The infidels completed this insanity applying vagabonds or tribesman sure, over 50 adult men,a Trojan, hidden,God will quickly come across and injury this one guy tribe. You the Knight,me a peasant, all of us.?bored to death. shall we bypass pillage.bye......

I like to think I do, I have failings the same as any other human, but with God's help I try to do my bit to help others in any way that I can. Also I believe that God sent his own son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins.

Maya Angelou wrote it, though this is the first time I've ever seen the last verse, and there are other important changes in this text as you posted it.

To me it's a description of where all real Christians are at.
