I purchased a secondhand Pathfinder (1999, petrol, auto) about 12 months ago, and I'm thinking it chews a bit too much fuel. Ever since I got it, it has used a full tank of fuel (70+ litres) to about 400km city driving, and a bit over 500km on the highway. It doesn't appear to do any better when run on premium unleaded (trial of 3 tanks), and only gets about 80% of that when an ethanol blend is added. I had it serviced (not Nissan) about 6 months ago, and there was no change in consumption. Can anyone help?

No roofrack, only wife and kids. 285/70/R16 BF All Terrain tyres (looking to change to 275/75/R16 Goodyear Wranglers in a couple of months) Easy on the acceleration, and keeping the overdrive locked doesn't seem to make a diiference. Forgot to mention the exhaust smells pretty rich, more so on start up, but even after it's been running for a while. Ethanol blends really stink it up....

Two things weight and Pathfinders are aerodynamic as a brick.VG 3.3 engine The EPA ratings were 15 / 20 miles a gallon. let's calculate that from metric. 400km= 248.5 miles 500km=310.6 miles devided by 70 liters= 18 gallons for 13 miles a gallon and 17 miles a gallon. Your fuel mileage may vary do you have items on the roof rack? How much weight inside the truck. Stock size or larger wheels and tires? And how much right foot.
