No fakes from the dollar store. I think when you buy cheap fakes that you can tell are fake from across the room it's tacky and you should just do candles or something you can afford. However, there are tons of amazingly realistic fakes from places like Hobby Lobby that are half the price of real flowers.
For my boquets, corsages, and the boutineers we will have real flowers. Fakes would have worked too but i wanted to be spoiled and have a real boquet...just seemed fair that everybody else get real flowers too.
For the reception decor, cake, everything else...fakes. They don't wilt, they are a thrid of what a florist quoted me, and after the wedding I can sell them and get most of my money back whereas real flowers die and thats it. Another reason I chose fakes is allergies. I have seen too many weddings with sneezing guests because of the flowers or weddings that just reek because the flower smell is soo strong. One rose might not smell alot but when you get a few hundred in one room....(our wedding will smell like coffee. I'm puttin instant and some beans in the bottom of the votives and things where you can't see it and the smell is amazing. I tested it out at my shower and everybody commented on how great the place smelled but couldn't find the air freshner ;)

It is all about what your personal preference is - it is all up to you! Also, take into consideration what kind of flowers you would like. The type of flowers you use really affects your cost. And, consider how big of a wedding it is - do you want centerpieces, or no, flowers in the church (if a church wedding) - bouquets, etc. It can go into the thousands pretty fast if you choose expensive flowers, elaborate arrangements or just want the entire venue covered. I looked into both fake and real (this was 10 years ago though) and both were expensive.

It really depends on what you want. Normally, I would say real flowers are better. But if you want to use out-of-season flowers OR if you're having a summer wedding and would like to use flowers that wilt easily (delicate flowers like hydrangeas), you may be better off with fakes.
Just a note: good quality fake flowers will cost just as much as real ones, but they CAN look just as nice, too!

I truly believe that real flowers are much prettier, and though they won't last forever, they will look beautiful in the pictures!
Also - I don't know about everyone else, but I can spot a fake flower right away.
Real flowers may cost a little extra, but I know that you'll be happy that you went with them.
For our wedding, we used Calla Lilies (which are on the more expensive side), but if you are looking to save money on flowers, you will want to go with roses. Those tend to make the most cost effective bouquets and centerpieces believe it or not.

REAL! This way the guests won't think you're broke or cheap. Having artificial flowers at a wedding means the wedding is somewhat artificial as well. So avoid at all costs.

I think real flowers, they add great smell to your wedding, plus they just look much better, more romantic.
