The marinade can make a difference if it has natural ontiseptics in it, but I would never leave meat marinading for more than 24 hours.
Especially if there are things like red wine in the marinade, which toughen meat up if left too long

A week is a bit much. Hopefully, the steaks (in their marinade) have been refrigerated. In which case, they wouldn't go "bad", in the sense that they're spoiled. But marinades do tend to dry meats out, so too long in the marinade can have an effect that's the opposite of what you want. What you can do, though, is remove the steaks from the marinade, wrap them in plastic, and freeze them. The marinade will stop "working" in the freezer, and you can put the steak/steaks in the fridge to thaw on the morning of the day you plan to eat them.

It depends on the kind of marinate. Some marinates are too acid for bacterias to survive but some don't.
But the meat is going to be bad in other ways if left too long. Each marinate has its own time.

I wouldn't be eating at his house any time soon. Overnight is sometimes suggested for a marinade but I have never even done that. Days or weeks? I would expect other things to be crawling in there with it.

2 days for any type of marinate, and definitely stretching 3 days, after that bacteria start growing, you don't want to eat food with bacteria , it can cause upset stomach, food poison , i learn that cooking in restaurants and for the public schools, you got have a license, so you take a class and a test

I usually wouldn't cook meat after 3 days in the fridge no matter what. And 3 days is stretching it.
