My six year old daughter is a handful. Recently, we had a new little baby girl who is now seven months old. When I was pregnant we bought my eldest lots of little baby dolls, so she could take care of a baby like Mommy. She has now several times turned the oven or microwave on and "cooked" her dollies. We actually had to replace the microwave. Thankfully, she uses a pan in the oven, so the melted wax has never gotten into the oven, just ruined some pans. It stopped for awhile, but yesterday I found her hauling her little sister to the kitchen. The oven had been turned on and she had a pan already out. I thougth they were napping! She is the sweetest little girl most of the time, but I don't know what to do. Is this where you talk to a pastor, a priest? I have no idea. I think she lacks empathy or something!

I really don't know whether to believe this or not. It seems to me that if my 6 year old granddaughter tried to pick up my 6 month old grandson, the little Boy would howl from not being held properly. I cannot imagine either of their mothers replacing a microwave if the first had been destroyed while their child "went through a stage".
Now in the even that this is a real issue. I suggest that someone referred to being pregnant as "having a bun in the oven" and she is merely play acting being pregnant. I do not think she lacks empathy, I think she needs firm discipline. In the meantime, put child guards on everything and move the baby to where you can keep a closer eye on her.

Oh My Gosh! The very 1st thing that you need to do is unplug the microwave and get a safety switch for the stove. She is going to kill someone...either by putting them in the oven or by putting something the microwave and making it blow up.
I work with dementia patients. We have to do this all the time for their apartments. There are many creative things that you can do to keep her, and everyone else safe.
The second thing you need to do is take her to a psychiatrist. It is not normal behavior for a child to want to cook another child or their dolls or toys. There is some sort of pent up mental agression there that she is taking out on anything she can.
First...unplug the stove and the microwave, then get her to the doctor. It's more than a lack of empathy!

This is a HUGE red flag, and should have been long before this. A six year old does not need to be operating the microwave or the oven without supervision. It was bad enough with the dolls. If you don't get some help, a real crisis could come when you least expect it.

Put up a secure baby gate in the opening to your kitchen while you call around for psychiatric help.
If a baby gate won't work (if she can get in them or if the doorway is too wide) remove the knobs from the stove and put a child lock on the oven door.
In any case, watch your children better and get her help. Lacking empathy can be signs of severe mental disorders.

First let me say PUT CHILD LOCKS ON EVERYTHING!!
That being said, I think your older child may be a bit jealous (hence the term sibling rivilary)! Your daughter may feel pressured to cater to the baby since you bought her dolls to "pretend" to be a Mommy. She may just need a creative outlet that has nothing to do with her new sibling. If you can, spend some alone time with her, ask her what types of activities she enjoys (she may want to play baseball or take karate), try to get her to draw or paint (it's a great way for children to express themselves).
I really don't think it's cause for alarm just yet, she's just expressing her resentment towards her sister for "stealing" time away from the two of you. After all she did have you all to herself before lil' sis came along. Give her plenty of love and reassurance!
Good luck!

This is very serious! You should not even be asking us this! You and your daughter should be talking to a child therapist right now! Your daughter is doing these things to get your attention. Parents must really pay close attention to older children being around smaller children. They get real jealous! It is not that you have a bad daughter, but that she is trying to get her parents attention! GET HELP NOW!

You spank her until her eyes cross and then spank her again until her eyes uncross and explain to her if she ever even THINKS of going NEAR the controls on that stove again, and you find out she will get double.Tell her this can hurt her sister badly.
