A friend has some Olive Oil and asked if I wanted it because she hardly ever uses it. The bottle is about 3/4 full and she says it's about 2-3 years old. is it still good?

Cooking oils can go rancid. A number of factors affect the speed an oil turn bad. These include the variety of oil, the temperature it was stored at and light exposure.

The best way to tell is to smell it, then maybe try a taste. When in doubt just throw it out.

Yes cooking oils go bad. I would take a pass and get a fresh bottle just to be on the safe side.
Also typical cooking oils are already processed by heating which makes them undigestible before you buy them.
Ie Safflower oil, corn oil, canola, pretty much any bottled cooking oil except for olive. Butter is ok, margarine is not, there are a few cold pressed oils in the health food store that are ok too..
The other thing is to cook at as low a temp as possible cause the oils go bad at high heat, so slow cooking is best ( think crock pot type stuff) and olive oil is especially not good to cook with, better for salads.

Olive oil doesn't go bad, per se, it is good 2 years past the manufacture date. The age may affect the taste, but it is still safe to use.

oil is going undesirable fairly at as quickly as i would not use oil that alter into left in a deep fryer whether that's greater suitable than a month old (and if it replace into used i would not use it lower back if it replace into greater suitable than each and every week old)

They can go rancid, and give an off taste to anything you cook with it. Smell it, taste it. It might still be good, but more likely it has turned.

No. Oil gets rancid. Pitch it after that long.

If it smells wierd or anything, don't use it.

It really shouldn't matter though, because if it is going to be heated than I'm sure whatever's in it will die.

Think about it this way, if its comming from an olive... would you keep an olive that long?!?! TOSS IT !!!!!
