She had back surgery in March. She can't walk. She may have very little pain off and on. But she won't go to sleep at night . She whins for me to stay in the room with her. Herbs for her to rest easy? I know she probably sleeps while I am at work.

My co-worker has a older dog with similiar back problem. I know she took her dog to a hollistic acupuncture doctor on a monthly basis. I can tell the diff. it makes on her dog at work. Just google hollistic acupuncture doctor around your area. Just a thought!

If she can't walk at all the kindest thing to do would be to put her to sleep. She's a big dog so it must be hard for you to keep her clean. If you work all day she's lying in urine (I assume) and this will start to burn her skin and give her sores.
I know people who got carts (wheelchairs) for their big dogs because they absolutely could not put them down. There's a place in Ma., Eddie's Wheels, that makes the carts. If your dog is NOT suffering with pain and is otherwise very healthy this is an option.
I'm really sorry and I know just how you feel. It's so very hard to let them go but sometimes it's the last and greatest gift we can give a beloved pet. It's without a doubt the hardest gift to give. The money we spend on our cherished ones is nothing compared to the cost of breaking our hearts when they leave.

I think as a dog lover my self, you need to put her to sleep. I think you're putting her in more stress than she can handle. If she has had surgery and can't walk anymore, I wonder why the vet has put her through all of this just to make a dollar out of her. Sorry, but if you love your dog , you need to let her go to rest!

Only you know the tough answer to this question: if you love your dog, 13 is a long life for a large dog like that......if she's in pain, consult a vet and go from there.....I know that losing a friend is tough, but in your heart you know that it's the proper thing to do......Heck, at leat with our animal friends we have the choice to make for them dealing end of life issues......I know this is probably going to be a flood of emotional feelings, but you and only you can make the right decision.....if you were in your dog's place and he/she had to make the decision to make you at peace, you know what to do......I'll be very sorry for your loss, but you have great memories to rely on to get you through the rough time ahead of you.....God bless, and let us know if you need emotional support........Heck, that's why we're here!!!

My heart goes out to you!!!!!!!!!
