No. You need a night fishing permit only if you fish after sun down. If so, you could buy the night fishing permit at Jones Beach Field 4 administration bldg. or Robert Moses Park Police station on the Great South Bay side, opposite of Field 3. If you fish at Captree during the morning, afternoon, or early evening no permit required. Just be careful of the size of flukes, the state DEC to come around and check. It is however gong to cost you $8 to park at captree state park unless you have a $59 seasonal pass.

If it's a state park I'm sure you need a permit. it all depends on your state though. Just get online on your state DNR website. It will tell you what you need.
