I thought everyone knew that turkeys were originally Indian emigrant chickens who decided to seek a new life across the Atlantic Ocean.
They built a raft called the Kon Chiki and landed on Christmas island (where they mutated) - hence the link with turkeys and the mid-winter festival.
Bernard Matthews takes several large deliveries right through the year and to prepare them for Christmas he feeds them copious amounts of testosterone - this trebles their size but unfortunately gives them acne (which accounts for their changed facial appearance).
