If you didn't note them when you picked up the car, there is nothing that you can do. If you noted all of them, but dropped off the car without signing the final walk around, you are responsible for all scratches that are new, even if they happened between the time that you dropped off and the rental agency representative took possession. Next time, get their damage waiver. It is like 10/ day and saves this hassle

You should have been keen to have him note down the scratches and damage in the car when he gave you the walk around....it's really hard to tell you what to do especially when you're not staying in that country for long. Otherwise you would have to come up with evidence or it's your word against theirs.....

You signed the "walk around" papers so you will have a hard time getting out of paying for the ones they claim you made. They will bill your credit card.
