Talk to your sister about it. Also, you can just go to the toy department or Toys r US and buy an age appropriate gift. However, he's only 1 so he'll forget the toy quickly so don't knock yourself out finding the "best" toy. Just find one that you think he'll enjoy and help him develop.

If you like your sister a lot, then buy blocks and other quiet toys. If your sister bugs you, then buy a noisy truck toy that plays music and talks. A fire truck usually has a nice annoying siren sound... lol :-)

Hi, how about personalized books? Kids love to read/hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Dinosaur Land, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Three Little Pigs, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift... It's something they can enjoy now and keep forever!! Good Luck!

Almost any store will have an aisle with appropriate toys, the packages indicate the age recommended. I like to encourage young ones with learning types of toys.

If you want it to be something special and kept, I would suggest making something. Toys get broken, clothes are outgrown, but something handmade is often treasured forever. Some ideas are a blanket, picture (framed), pillow, photo album, or a stuffed or wooden toy.

books are the best gift and are loved far longer than the toys that are in the garbage shortly after the box is thrown away. I also gave my daughter a box of kleenex tissues for her first birhtday. She loved pulling one tissue out at a time and watching the next one automatically appear. It was great on the video too. "Blueberries for Sal" is a good book. "More, More, More, Said the Baby" is good. "The Snowy Day" is good. "Pat the Bunny" is good. Pop-up books are good but some kids destroy them too easily. "Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb," is good. There are lots of books now in board book form which are great for a kid who will too easily tear up books. Have fun!

There are tons of Kids toys marked with the age for it. I like the leap pad toys and Baby Einstein, they are good for developing a babys brain. If you want to stay away from toys try clothes but be careful because some people are picky about clothes and kids grow out of them quickly. How about something she can use soon for the baby like bibs, touch and feel books, little baby shoes, etc.

I bought my son a Chicco walker for his first birthday, and a Chicco SmartDriver toy. They were both about thirty bucks...but HUGE hits! Especially the SmartDriver. My 3 year old niece and one year old nephew both love them, and so does my son. It's relatively cheap, and you will be crowned the favorite aunt! :) Good luck.

I am the "Book-giver" in my family. You can count on me to find a good book for any age.
Never too early to instill a love of reading. Reading is the bridge to the future.
At this age, Dr. Seuss, hard back ABC books. Books with Big pictures of ducks and kittens, etc. Fuzzy books or pop-up books.

At this age he'll be getting enough toys and clothes. Just get him a savings bond. My daughter is 3 now and have about 20 savings bonds from different people. good luck!

Ask your sister! She will know what she needs.... toys (ask what type!) books (plastic, cloth, cardboard?), clothes (current size? next size up?), etc. Or maybe she needs something more expensive, and you can go together with someone else - a lot of babies need a new carseat at this point, possibly a new stroller too.
