I am Bulimic and understand how you might be feeling. I have been in recovery for about 4 years now. Since meeting my husband who helped me to see I really needed counseling to get at the root of my problems. For me it was understanding myself and realizing why I felt low self esteem, and realizing that I had no control over things in my life that hurt me. Though every person has an event in their life that permanently alters the type of person they become, though for me, this event has not been the fact that I suffer from bulimia, but rather the steps that I have taken to recover from it. Recovery has always been something I have wanted, however it was not always something I believed in. To be honest there was a time during the worst stage of my disorder when I did not believe recovery would be possible. I thought I would be sick for the rest of my life. Since I had no hope in the fact that it was possible for me to get better. Through having canceling and gaining more understanding of myself I don't make myself sick or binge as I use to. Though being 100% truthful with you it never goes away, the urge too. And I have gone from doing it every day to once or twice every few months .... I am getting there. The truth is it has nothing to do with wieght but how I deal with emotions and that is what I am learning new ways of coping with lifes ups and downs. I think the feelings will always be there bit like an recovering alcholic just because your not drinking does not mean your not a alcholic. You see it is always there, my security blanket of sorts. I have been in recovery for a couple of years now, but it always amazes me how easily I use that blanket to comfort me. The crazy thing is, I know how bad this is for me, hell I even know the reasons why I do, but it doesn’t always make a difference. One of the most frustrating things about it is that it really doesn’t work for me the way that it did prior to recovery. It used to give me comfort and power, however delusional that was, but my knowledge has taken away that comfort and power that I felt and just left me with a habit, a reflex that just doesn’t disappear. So I am working at it and I am getting stronger. What I am trying to say is you really do need to get councelling and work through what it is at the root of your problem. It wont be easy and it wont happen over night but you can do it. Believe it your self

Both anorexia and bulimia can be serious health problems with serious or deadly consequences.

A person who is doing these things - especially over a number of years - has a serious psychological problem.
Your problems - as long as they have lasted - are beyond your ability to fix on your own. There is hope for healing. You need to sit down with a professional counselor, psychologist or maybe a psychiatrist, experienced in eating disorders.

If you want to stop the behavior and can't, that means you're missing something. So, when you look at it with a qualified mental health person, they will have some ideas of where to look for where you are stuck or where your life feels out of control. They can help you look at what feels so awful to you, possibly why you hate an area of your life, a memory, why you feel the need to rid your body of something other than food.

As you discover for yourself while being coached by
the counselor, you will have moments you say "a-haa, that makes sense. I never made that connection before" And
you can work to resolve some of what's bothering you. Then, when you do that, it will still take self control on your part, but
you will feel more settled within yourself, as if pieces of you
are more at peace more resolved. That will allow you the
ability to take control of your behavior - to feel better about who you are - and your new understanding of yourself.

This may not be a total "cure", but it will give you the tools you need to be ABLE to successfully address it.

this is a very serious problem that needs to be treated by a doctor. first you need to asap make an appointment with your familly doctor and tell him/her your situation. they will want to do a full check up on you to make sure that you have not harmed yourself in anyway and that you are in good shape. they might then suggest that you see a specialist for your particular problem of bingeing and vomiting, so that you can stop this very ,very dangerous habit. may GOD Bless you and keep you in the PALMS of HIS HANDS.

You need therapy---this is a serious medical condition---if nothing else, you are going to lose teeth because the stomach acid you vomit will destroy them.
Take control of your life in other areas, and stop trying to please people.
Get to a doctor/therapist.

You can't do it on your own. Please contact the E.D.A.P. (Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention). They can offer answers to your questions, information, and nationwide referrals. Their number is 1-800-931-2237.
